lurker and hand therapist here… two dorsal blocking splints with PIP in flexion could be a myriad of injuries but all of them have a long recovery and can be huge buggers. dislocations are complicated at those joints and could have involvement of some extensor tendon structures. they can be very painful and difficult manage especially if he’s…[Read more]

Laceration and dislocation- is one of the things I heard weeks ago. Anyone dislocated a finger?- hurts like a b!t(h. Can Take weeks for swelling to go down- who knows except cam and Whitt and doctors. Again, we can all speculate his status and recovery time- it would be beneficial to fans who pay and support this program to know wtf is going on

Especially in this age of toxic social media, there’s so many fans who are keyboard doctors and judges of character/intent. And then the players have a old school coach with a very hardline rule on injuries. So they can’t defend themselves. Whitt said yesterday “I’m not on social media. So I don’t know anything about this backlash to Cam.” 1. I…[Read more]

Exactly. What does “swing for the fences” even mean when it comes to recruiting? I would assume they are doing everything possible to get all of the in-state players. The only thing we can’t necessarily swing for the fences on is NIL, which is the problem for a lot of programs.

The problem with not disclosing the severity of an injury leads everyone to believe the best case scenario. Why not just disclose what the injury is and we can understand why he isn’t playing. This gamesmanship doesn’t fly anymore. I’m sure there is leaks in the locker room and opposing teams seem to know more than we do. Not that anyone cares…[Read more]

You say this:
“If Utah really wants to secure their future, they need to swing for the fence and recruit the local kids.”
Is Utah not recruiting these local kids? Or is Utah just not getting commitments from them. I assume Utah is swinging for the fences and trying to recruit them (maybe I am wrong), but recruiting them only goes so far, there…[Read more]

Correction to the Athletic: Maybe my math is off, but Cam has missed THREE full games (Utah State, OK Stat, and Arizona). And the first full game without him was not OK State, it was Utah State.

Here is my gripe with this whole situation. If the injury is actually bad, then the blame for this IMO lies with Whit. Whit has downplayed the injury, which leads most observers to assume that Cam is a pussy and has no heart or desire to play.
Whit has the notion that there is strategic advantage to downplaying the injury because then other…[Read more]

Cam Rising was seen yesterday signing autographs wearing a splint on two fingers. I’m no doctor, but if truly was just a ‘laceration’ why would he need to wear a splint?

This might be what Utah needs. They never seem to play well with a target on their back. They always seem to do better when they have a chip on their shoulder and have less expectations. But without Rising who knows how the season will turn out. Even if he returns, who knows how the season will go.

The reporting to camp overweight is common knowledge.
You say you got your info from a coach and that’s great my info is 2nd hand at best. He got no chances vs. Utah St and hasn’t had any carries since the opener game against Southern Utah. Family could be here for 10 different reasons.
Continuing the RB trend I’ve also heard Hunter Andre…[Read more]

Thanks alohaute for the baseball post. It’s nice to see some playoff talk. I haven’t watched hardly any baseball this year but I will follow the padres. I was a huge yankee fan growing up when baseball was king and Mickey Mantle was my idol.

I think you’re wrong on this one. Utah needs NFL guys. Most of Utah’s NFL guys come from out of state. Reverse engineer the recruiting and if Utah gets half or 40% of the top 10 Utah kids, that’s about at or above the average nationwide and historically. Of course there have been some up years where they’ve grabbed 70% or 80% but those are the out…[Read more]

Welcome to life in a non power conference. Our recruiting is going to fall back to closer to MWC level unless we’re getting to the playoff every year. 1. There are really only two power conferences, and we’re not in one, and 2. We can’t compete monetarily with them.

For the states with larger pools of talent, for sure. However, Utah needs to land on a higher percentage of them to stay successful. Does that mean landing a five-star? Of course not but missing out on near or current in-state four-stars cannot happen for our Utes.

How many times do we need to say this: most states lose half their top 10 kids to out of state schools. The end.

Assuming Helaman commits to Texas A&M (essentially a done deal at this point,) Utah would have missed out on four of the ten best players in the state of Utah. Normally Utah missing out on in-state talent would not worry me, but the ’26 in-state class is LOADED! I cannot recall the state of Utah having this much high school talent in one class.

Braves are a solid team, I’m definitely nervous, but I think the Padres are the more complete team and they’ve been the best team in baseball since the all-star break. Should be an excellent series.
