Even though this is a simple idea, it’s going to take someone a hell of a lot of time. I lack the skills but I’m willing to put my money where my mouth is and would pay a fee to play or make a contribution to the site to get it off the ground. I wish I would have thought of it sooner because the season starts in a little over two weeks.

A few years ago someone had a pick’em sight but it died about 2-3 years ago. It was http://www.pac12statcentral.com/pickem/login.php

Huge traffic, local sports writers from all the Pac-12 states played as well as fans. It was cool! It was Pac-12 only games, which I like because that is practically all I watch. Especially with the condensed 60 minute rebroadcasts on the Pac-12 channel. I watch a ton of Pac-12 football.

Tony, posting this “Pac-12 Only Pick’em” all over social media will drive interest to Utehub. To my knowledge, no one is doing something like this since the site I referenced above died off.

Even in a worst case scenario, I’d be happy playing with a half a dozen or so other regular posters here. It would be a blast spending my whole week here on Utehub talking about upcoming games, review prior weeks games, critique others’ pics. I want this to happen badly!

Running totals and weekly winners plus over all leader automatically calculated.

Again, I have no skills to pledge, but I will pledge money to see it implemented on the site.

@89ute VERY cool idea! So this pick ’em would mean a user would pick every game every week with no point spread I assume?  So the app would have to have a place for some admin to punch in the games.  Then the users would pick their picks and hit submit.  Then it would track a leaderboard of sorts.

Sounds really cool.  I could definitely build it but not by the time the season starts, especially since I just got a new job.  Maybe something done by the Pac-12 conference season is “possible.” I gulp as I say that.  It would be days/weeks worth of programming.

I would definitely suggest weekly winners and a season long contest.  That way if some miss the first few they can still do the weekly stuff.

Yup, that’s it. weekly winners/competition so people can join anytime and still be part of it. No point spreads, way to much brain damage, just a straight up pick’em, click a radio button or something next to the team you think will win.

I knew it would be some work, but it sounds like it’s more than a lot. Us non-programmer types think people like you can whip this sort of thing up in an afternoon.

        Congratulations on the new job.

I’m mapping it out on some paper now, while also cleaning out the garage.  It can get deep pretty fast.  I love the idea though.  I’ll be working on some concepts.

So far I have a few page ideas.

        • Home Page
        • Season Standings Leaderboard
        • Week by week leaderboard (same format as season, but shows one week)
        • User week by week w/l
        • Pick ’em form showing each matchup.  Form would have to “close” when first game starts.  Could be a PITA.
        • Edit picks – allow user to change picks as long as the first game hasn’t started

Hmm.. this is going to be quite an undertaking.

If we need to, I could help manually enter in results the first year. It would be a pain in the ass, but I’d be willing to pitch in to make it work.

I’m going to try and make as much of it automatic as possible. Hopefully the only “manual” entries will be setting the weekly game matchups and dates.

Not sure what language UteHub is coded in but if it is PHP this might be a good way to get a head-start:

Any chance you can have it done by this weekend? I like to have my picks in early.

Just kidding. This is already a tremendous site and I know it is only going to get better as the season begins. Thank you so much for all your time and hard work!

Just working out the database fields, structure, and relationships is wild. This is going to be very cool.

Love me some good Utes talk. Thanks for setting this place up.

…just passed out haha. I’m going to put some good time in on it this weekend.
