I don’t understand the strategy for putting it on the PAC12 network.
If the goal is to attract a larger national audience then this is a massive fail. NO one has the PAC12 network out east.
Why have an early game if it’s not on ESPN,FOX????

The school doesn’t choose the network. Obviously if we had a choice we would put it on a national broadcast. As a season ticket holder I don’t mind an early game here and there.

My point is this. It’s seems logical that Utah/NIU would not be picked up nationally….just not a nationally interesting game. So why schedule it early?
I suppose it gives the PAC12 network early morning content but does that overcome what sounds to be disaproval by Ute fans attending the game?
Again, I don’t get the strategy.

I don’t disapprove the time. It’s a GREAT time for me. Night games are harder to bring the whole clan.

Not in the afternoons anymore. Hazard of being a member of Pac-12 is being on Pac-12 Network sometimes; they need to fill their day with games. I am in the midwest and Pac-12 is on my “Digital Sports Package” along with SEC, Big10, etc, so I think its not that uncommon for people to have access if they are sports fans. An alternative would be for Pac-12 to go to ESPN+ like the Big12 and a lot of G5 conferences. Not gonna happen, and hope of getting on DirecTV is out the window thanks to bumbling Larry.

I personally like the early time… as not to stay up till 2:00 am but don’t think this early morning approach will move the needle unless it’s on ESPN/FOX/CBS.
I supposed there is value in having PAC12 games played early on Saturday so that the east coast media has a chance to talk about it during the day…

Sadly game times are now entirely based on the desires of the TV network. At least it looks to be a bit cooler Saturday (86 is the forecast high which is better than the 100 we hit on Sunday) but I still will make sure to have my sunscreen and a hat.

I’m not too worried about exposure in the first part of our season. We have plenty of media hype. Once we get to conference play, there’s a chance we will be top 10. That could possibly shifting of networks and better exposure. Boys just have to do what they do and win the games in front of them.

It sucks for those of us with kids that play sports on Saturday mornings. I think there are a lot of tickets for sale for that reason.
-
UteROCKParticipant
Yep – Saturday morning youth football for me too. There will be parks throughout the valley that are full of football fans that can’t make the game. Early games suck – 4pm to 6pm start times are ideal in my opinion.

Like other networks the PAC 12 network has other games in the day and cant schedule two games at the same time. That would be dumb. Without looking at the schedule, my guess would be that NIU is the farthest east opponent of all of the PAC 12 games. Making that one the earliest, makes more sense. Starting niu at 9 PM their time would be dumb. People in the east may watch NIU, why put them on late?
