I know that our game with UW is a month away and we have three important games before then. However, many people say that this is the one game that we will lose. I am not saying we will definitely beat UW. I am saying that the game is very winnable IMO.
I watched the UW/USC game and came away feeling that we can beat these guys. UW did what we didn’t do and that was stop their passing attack and beat USC. Nonetheless, what I saw gave me some confidence.
– They played D against USC as we should have done and that is to drop both safeties 20 yards. This did not allow any long passes. USC ran well against their D and passed okay, but could not go long.
– Key mistakes cost us scoring opportunities against USC. USC made the same mistakes against UW like a turnover inside the 5 and turning the ball over on downs in the red-zone.
– Our offense moved the ball better against USC than UW did. The announcers kept saying that USC’s D line is second only to Utah in the PAC12 because UW could not get their running game going. Utah ran well against USC’s defense. We were just hurt with critical drive stopping penalties.
– UW lost all but one starter on their 2018 vaunted defense. They are still good, but nothing like they were a year ago.
– Eason is a good QB. I like him a lot. But, he does not have the deep threats that USC has. They do not have the same running attack they have had the last three years.
If we stay healthy (especially Huntley and Moss), there is no reason we cannot compete with UW in November. We need to take care of business between now and then. ASU scares me because we never seem to play those guys well and Cal has a great defense. I am not sure how long Cal’s QB will be out. But, without him – their offense seems to be weak.
Go Utes!!!

Yeah we have a pretty small chance at beating UW. Most statistical prognostications put us around 20-25% of winning. That’s….not very good.
On the bright side…most statistical prognostications have us winning all of our other games. 10-2 is a helluva season, if it happens.

7-2 in conference wins the South. USC still has @Cal, @Colorado, @ASU, and Oregon. I’ll bet they finish 5-4 in conference.

It feels like ASU is Utah’s biggest threat to the South.

You may be right. That’s why that game is so big. We need to win that game.

Utah had one Mulligan. They used it against SC. Every game is a must win but that Washington game could be a loss and still get the south wrapped up. I am hoping Oregon wins the north. I think Utah will beat them.

Might have a shot, unless of course the call comes down to the refs to make sure the dawgs win!

Peterson already owns KWhit. Add to that UW plays Utes after playing bye the week before, while the Utes go up against a tough, but now injured Cal team.
It’s gonna be a tough row to hoe for the Utes to win on the lake

We did smash ASU twice not too long ago.
