At the 11:10 mark he talks about the “dirty” plays from his team and basically says none of it was intentional and that “they always catch the second guy”, suggesting that his players were instigated. This dude is nothing but a good salesman.

“They always catch the second guy.” WTF?? That apology doesn’t mean anything then. This guy is playing everybody.

Yeah except on the Enis one he was the first guy. Oh yeah and the Moss target that was the first guy. Man what a douche.

Enis on the kickoff was a clean hit square in the chest.

Look at how kickoff coverages are done. They are not done like that. It was headhunting plain and simple.

May be legal, but dirty dirty, like the signal stealing ASU was famous for.

Wasn’t legal and was a cheap shot.

I believe that the blind-side block is now illegal in college football.  I am questioning that now.  I didn’t see the play live so I don’t know if they threw a flag or not but that was a text book blind side block.  Either way it was dirty and a cheap shot.  Usually the receiving team falls back and blocks down field closer to the player receiving the kick.  The special teams coordinator should have chewed his ass for that.

The flag and 15 yd penalty disagree.

First, an apology that starts off with ‘it’s always the second guy that get’s caught’ is not an apology at all. It is an attempt to blame both teams. I do not believe Herm has apologized yet. Next, the play on Enis was not something that happened in the course of a game. The player is coached to retreat to a point to make a block consistent to the return play called, or he is coached to fire off the line and hit a guy long before a play is set up. The steps are in opposite direction. With the exception of defending an on-side kick, zero return plays call for blocks forward of the on-side line. Generally, at all levels, that tactic is always viewed as a dirty play. Refs know it is much like a punch in a scrum and if not dealt with will lead to mayhem. Looking to see if it is a legal hit is like looking at a hit out of bounds to see if it is a legal hit. No one in football considers that type of move to be a football play, instead it is stepping outside the game to simply take a shot at a guy.
