Think I just peed a little…

Lowell probably declares after this season correct? What more does he need to prove after this season if he stays healthy?
-
UtahParticipant
Lowell and Marcus Williams are gone after this year. Two first rounders.

Agree, but with one caveat. Marcus is a 4.0 civil engineering student. I’m not quick to assume he jumps to the NFL unless he completes his degree. Obviously, it matters to him.

I’ve heard that he’s gone.

Would be interesting to see him stay another year. Can’t guys come back and finish their degrees after a NFL career?
-

I’m thinking a degree like engineering would be pretty tough to come back to and pick up where you left off. If he were pursuing the ever popular communications or sociology degree it’s probably much easier to come back and do that. Think Andrew Luck staying to complete his degree in architecture. “Utah” posted he’s gone, if so, I’m very curious about how far along he is with his degree. His bio on utahutes.com says finishing prerequisites for a civil engineering major which does not read like he’s going to be finished the end of his Jr. year.

Isn’t the engineering a five year program? I know Beadles I believe it was did engineering as well. Had a high GPA.

I don’t know, but most students take more than 4 years to graduate in just about anything. I would be very impressed of someone could bang out an engineering degree in 4 years. Another tid bit I picked up from last year came for a desnews article on Marcus Williams.
Williams has been called “football smart” by safeties coach Morgan Scalley, because of all the preparation he does in studying film of opposing teams each week. But Williams is also an excellent student, having achieved a 4.0 GPA in high school and doing well academically at the U., where he is studying civil engineering.
“It’s a priority for me,’’ he said. “My parents always told me to get your schoolwork done first and then you can go play sports. School was always more important to them, so that’s what I always tried to do.’’
There have been a few articles put out on him and they all read the same. Tight, supportive family who hold academics in high regard.

Not to turn this into Beadles discussion but I didn’t know he signed with the Whiners.

Beadles was a Mechanical Engineer major or possibly electrical engineer. I can’t get there .edu to load on my phone

Hunter Lotulelei has already committed to play for the Utes.

Getting Tufele would be huge. Scout has him rated as the #2 defensive tackle in the country.
What about Scout 4-star Noah Ellis? Scout has him listed as “Low” interest in Utah, but 247 has one prediction of him going to Utah.
Any chance the Utes get Ellis?

Is Noah Ellis Luther’s son?

noneyadbParticipant
Yes, Noah is Luther’s son. Link to highlight film.

Would be a huge get.

How huge is it for these recruits to see that our DL is only bested by Alabama. That makes a kid want to play for the best. If our DL wasn’t so amazing right now, there’s no way we’d be getting looks from Tufele.
It’s funny because we’ve spent the last 5 years whining about a throw game and Whitt has quietly created a national brand for this team that sets us apart and gives us something to sell to kids.
I love it.

I would sooner have solid lines on both sides of the ball than a QB. Unfortunately combined with the coaching problems on the offensive side of ball it is a problem. Utah is easy to scheme for and the qb has been limited on ability. Why hasn’t the defense been a problem despite having MWC talent in the early days? Because Whitt has had a defensive identity that works regardless of scheme.

Maybe I am not very smart, but I studied between 30-50 hours a week to get my engineering degree, and I worked full time too. I can’t imagine doing a sport plus engineering. I take my hat off to any athlete who can do that, and especially anybody who do that and stay on the Dean’s List.
