Yeah, this team is sorely lacking in the beef department, which is what you get when your only upperclassman is an undersized guard. We give up way too many second chance opportunities against teams with older big men. It is what it is.
Carlson, Jantunen, and Thioune will be a great big man rotation some day, and Van Komen if he can continue to grow into his body. Carlson with 15-20 pounds of bulk is a damn good center.
Jones needs to grow a pair and shoot when he is open. We just don’t have enough scoring options for him to pass up open threes.
Battin is just not a Pac12 caliber athlete. Can’t remember the last time I saw that kid actually jump. He would be a good role player on a team with plenty of other scoring options, but we don’t have those so… He is a waste of space most games.
If this was our core going forward we would go nowhere the next few years. Allen is always going to be one dimensional, as is Battin. They are nothing more than role players on a good team.
Gach, Carlson, and Jones will lead this team to greatness along with the incoming recruits.
