So what do we know? Here is their press release on the game:http://www.sjsuspartans.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/091216aab.html

So they managed 10 points on the road to Tulsa week one.  Then 66 at home against Portland St.  In 2015 they managed a 6-7 record going 4-4 in the MWC.  A close loss to BYU, and they loss both of their P5 games by large margins.  (Oregon St won 35-21 and Auburn 35-21)

Here is a link to most of their recent press clippings:http://www.mercurynews.com/tag/san-jose-state-spartans/

Things I was able to glean so far is they have a 7 year college Running back in Deontae Cooper.  Cooper has gone under the knife three times for ACL surgeries transferred from Washington.  So Utah plays a sort of Taysom Hill x2 except Cooper is only 25. Cooper was not on the Washington team that beat Utah in 2012.  Spartans have been picked to finish third by the media in the MWC.  They return three Olineman from last season, and have a few impact players declared academically ineligible

The QB Potter had a great game against Portland St.  Five total touchdowns two of which were on the ground.  Billy Freeman the tight end is going to be a hard cover.

It wasn’t all offense for the Spartans in their first win in the newly-named CEFCU Stadium. San Jose State’s defense came up with three interceptions and two fumble recoveries and turned them into 17 points.

With Utah’s recent ball security issues that is a concerning stat line.  Utah can correct these problems and that is what these non conference games are for.  With injuries to Fitts, Smith, and McCormick I wonder if they see the field at all.

This will be a fun game, with significantly less emotion involved. We should obviously win the game, but we can’t sleep on SJSU because they can score points and will advantage of mistakes.

They give up 35 pts per game so we really need to get 40 points or else we are in trouble.

I think our D can handle them pretty well. And Special Teams will be important.

Hopefully we will see the return of Cory Butler-Byrd. He needs a breakout game.

I think with Tyrone Smith injured I would love to see CBB. He is a dynamic player.  San Jose st seems to take advantage of mistakes better than BYU.

EDIT: Do we see the return of Domo this game? Maybe a few reps.

I am hoping for a brilliant defensive effort as usual.

I think we build off the 11 minute drive and make them prove they can stop the run. Give Moss, Shyne, and Johnson equal carries until one of them proves he is the ball-protecting, hole hitting badass that will be featured unless injured.
They’ll stack the box and then the pass game opens and we eat them alive.

This should be a cake walk and if it ain’t then its a clue this team is not mentally tough or focused. They’ve had the excuse of week 1 FCS opponent, and week 2 rivalry. Even though this is a MWC team we have problems that are very worrisome we need a clean game where we take control and no prisoners and never look back. If we do that then we have a good chance against USC. We don’t and I think embarrassment potential against USC is high. No matter how bad they may or may not be we can’t expect to beat them playing bad football which is what we’ve done for 7/8 quarters this far.

Utah doesn’t need to win big in this game either to prove anything. I think a clean game is what most fans will want. Zero turnovers especially fumbles, long sustaining drives with a few downfield touches. I want to see Tim Patrick have a big game, and continue to see Moss move the chains. Defensively Utah needs to hold San Jose St below 20.
