This is what college football is about!!! The high and mighty arrogance of: “we are too good to play Utah in the opener.”Combined with the fierceness to say they would rather play an FCS school!! Then using COVID as an excuse to not play the game to “reasonably” validate your arguement. Also it isn’t a “rivalry” but I am going to take the time to insult you as if Duck fans should care being the pinnacle of National Football!!
Bravo!! It has me excited to watch Football!!

Utah fans undoubtedly despise the Ducks, and with good reason. Oregon has spoiled Utah’s hopes on the national stage on several occasions over the past several years in both men’s basketball and football.
So what? Join the club. Everybody cries for the head of the king but Utah’s fanboy obsession with taking down Mighty Oregon is awkward and weird — like taking your sister to prom.
I don’t understand this opening. I don’t feel like our fan base despises Oregon anything beyond typical conference level stuff. We despise ASU. Beyond that, I’d say it depends on who you ask. USC would probably be next, but everyone is like that with USC.
Am I wrong? This isn’t Kentucky of the 90s.

Brent Pennington left a comment that he has a lot of respect for Coach Willingham.

My response…
Everyone in the conference uses that as subtle smack talk. I’m sure it was on purpose.

I despise Oregon, but probably their basketball team more than football. Only teams I dislike more than them in the conference are USC and the Arizona schools.

I despise every team we play. Well for a few hours at least.

Oregon and USC to less with more and we do more with less.

Oregon has a much stronger athletics program than we do. No two ways about it.

“the Utah football program vanished from the national conversation like a fart in the wind.”
Duck fan trying to use a quote from The Shawshank Redemption. It just doesn’t work.

It’s a cute piece that sounds of frightened arrogance. Move on.

I honestly thought is was supposed to be kind of satirical article given the lack of clarity or a cohesive point, contradictory positions taken within single issues, and overall lack of literary organization. Then I saw the author hobnobbing with folks in the comments section and realized in his mind this was “a serious piece of editorial journalism.” You would think with the authors list of credentials that he would put out something a touch better than a 4th quarter, 8 IPA deep, game day thread post on Addicted to Quack but I guess not.

theres a whole lot of “Oregon owns utah no big deal” in that article and a dash of “it wont be an easy game” as reasoning not to play it. Which is weird. Theres other places Oregon will play this year with numbers worse than ours. So thats also weird. Im not sure the revenge factor will play in much. Not many guys on the defensive side of the ball played a whole lot last year. Its also not really possible to hate your way to a win while simulteneously getting your first dose of cfb experience….against Oregon. Given the youth and the lack of offseason, WE are the ones who desperately need a few patty cakes to get guys feet wet.
Sounds like hes mostly worried that its a game Oregon could lose and is scared of opening with an L. I really dont see us winning this game. Maybe if it were played towards the end of the year.

The only reason I have dislike for Oregon is not specifically related to anything other than Nike and the Nike $$$. Obviously none of us would turn it down if Utah had that same kind of “in” to help with their athletics dept and competitive advantages that comes with it.
But yeah that “article” reeked of both “we’re so much better why do we have to play AND travel to Utah of all places it is beneath us” while at the same time sounding scared of losing and why can’t they play a lesser opponent.
With a Duck fan I wouldn’t expect them to know the U’s situation with the roster but as someone who writes an article I would expect some level of knowledge or research done. Yes they will be breaking in a new QB but so are the Utes along with most of the defense.
But whatever I didn’t even mean to spend this much time on this self entitled arrogance…
