Just reported on ESPN 700. He wasn’t listed as a starter on the 2-deep released today, which I’m sure is the main contributor to the decision. Pretty big blow to the secondary depth.

That’s a huge bummer, and perhaps the worst position group to lose anyone from.
I’m confused why someone would transfer at this point as well. This season does not count toward eligibility, so is there any advantage to transfering now rather than later? He would still have to sit a year, right? So at best he could play at this point next year I guess?

Or a good sign that other that younger talent stepped up and beat him out?

This one feels like a stab in the back. Too soon?

I guess he doesn’t like getting beat out by a freshman🤷♂️.

Can I be a little mean here? Boyd was a guy who got so much hype. He was always the 247 guys’ main love. He was going to be the next Carrington at WR. Then he switched because he was so amazing and he was going to take over once Johnson and company left…
Sometimes guys just aren’t that great and because they develop relationships with certain people and have a highlight catch the last 20 mins of practice vs walk on guys…
Take those guys with a grain of salt. Don’t expect too much out of them. If Boyd was a Carrington level player at WR, he’d be at WR. If he was a great CB, he would have played last year when we platooned Lews and Nurse opposite Johnson. He has had so many chances to be what everyone says he is…
I hope he goes to a place where he can play and he makes me look silly. That would be awesome. But at the end of the day, this news is a big ol “‘meh” from me.
We have some real talent at CB. Some REAL talent there. Our whole PAC-12 lives we’ve had to cobble together the secondary with JC guys/converted WR’s and Johnson was the first step away from that. We now have guys who were CB’s from day one. Guys we never would have gotten before.
Utah is still rising and Boyd leaving and the young guys beating him out is another sign of that. This program is a ways away from plateauing.

I don’t necessarily think being honest is being mean. I said something honest as well and at least one person didn’t like it.

I HATE the transfer portal.
I have no problem with Shelley and DHC transferring when they did. Those were good moves done at the right time. We had time to find replacements. However, I do not like players entering the transfer portal during the season. Maybe they need to change the rule and have a transfer period that ends a month before the season and doesn’t start up again until the season is over. Just a thought, but I am sure it won’t happen.

He has been removed from the roster.

This isn’t typical. If this wasn’t 2020 he wouldn’t be transferring this time of year.
