I took my kids to the game.  We were on the 4th row almost right on the 50 behind the Utah bench.

      1. It seemed like we should have had more sacks.  It seemed like myself and the other Utah fans were frustrated with the number of times they escaped.  This made me surprised to hear how many sacks we had at the conclusion of the game.  If we keep this up Sack Lake City is back this year.
      2. SJSU football stadium sucks.  It was just plain awful.  The bleachers have wooden footboards that are falling apart.  Whole areas seemed to be blocked off due to issues.  The halftime was a huge number of high school bands.  I think it was like 11.  After the half time show and all the parents left, I think the SJSU “fans” decreased by about 50%.  By the beginning of the 4th quarter Ute fans outnumbered SJSU fans.
      3. The team seems to have great chemistry.  The team interactions on the sideline during the slow start showed a team that was supporting each other and excited to get back in and do their part.
      4. T. Williams throws a pretty ball.  He needs to make a few better reads.  Our receivers need to help him out as well.
      5. O. line needs to improve on short yardage.  I couldn’t understand the awful red-zone offense.  Our players were huge compared to theirs and we just didn’t seem to get much push when we needed it.
      6. Our running backs worked hard.  There were several times with my vantage point that it seemed like they should have been stopped and then we would be surprised to see them continue on for more yards.  I don’t know if this was poor tackling but better views showed our RBs working hard after contact.
      7. The run/pass balance seems to be improved.  We have multiple run options that seem to be appropriate at different times and our passing game looks the best I have seen it since we joined the PAC-12.

This game definitely showed improvement.  We are far from perfect but the offense If we continue on this trajectory I think we should be near the top of the South with a good chance of finally winning it.

      GO UTES!

I forgot to mention. That hit on their QB Potter when he was trying to escape at the end of the 3rd was bone jarring. It was on the opposite side of the field and it sounded like a car wreck. I hope the kid is okay.

Thanks for the comments. In person is so much different and it’s nice to get some perspective.
