Dirk Facer’s Sports Page

Dirk is a good writer, really knows local sports, and a great guy.  I’ve never been a DNews subscriber but had watched him on TV and listened on the radio, when he did guest appearances, and started reading his stuff on the DNews website years ago.  

He is one of the best in the business here in Salt Lake and even better person.  I once spent an airplane trip seated next to him, casually said hi and asked a couple of questions, and then spent the next two hours, having one of the best conversations of my life.  He was kind enough to give my son, who was considering a career in sports journalism at the time, some advice about the business.

I’m not running a business now, but will speak with friends of mine who are an make sure they look to sponsor him.  Perhaps the DNews will run some ads – they should, I’ll be reading his pages, but not the DNews.

It’s criminal when organizations lay off those with experience (and therefore higher salaries), particularly those close to retirement, FIRST. 

I was at the Daily Utah Chronicle at the same time as Facer, Jim Burton, and Loren Jorgenson. I was actually in one of the first fantasy football leagues I ever heard about with them way back when. I always love to read their work and remember those times. I’ll bookmark his site.

DNews becoming another liberal media hack. Weird. I love Facer. Great coverage. Probably too conservative.
