That’s right a proud basketball school.  Before Urban. Alex, the Pac-12 and the winning streak against the Cougars we were a basketball school.

When we entered the Pac-12 and got that money and exposure (Whelp) football took a huge leap forward.  Basketball with all of the same resources is on life support.  Both programs got huge facility upgrades, more money etc.  Football took those resources and have turned into a top 20 program almost every year.  Basketball has regressed to become a complete non-factor.

On any given gameday Rice Eccles is rocking and the Huntsman center is a virtual mausoleum.

What’s the difference you ask – COACHING – one program consistently turns out better talent than what they brought in.  The other just either drives kids away or washes them up.  No one who has come to Utah basketball has become better by being here – not the same with football.  Heck we had a true first round talent in Kuzma and he wasn’t allowed to do nearly anything here.

There is only one solution – make a coaching / culture change.  We have no culture now – we have no end of game confidence – there are no magical moments anymore (save a van dyke buzzer beater).  The fans deserve better than being the worst college team in the state.  Our recruits deserve better – we need to move on

I love these kinds of posts when I see them over on Cougarboard.  They’re so pathetic and hilarious.

But when I see them here, it’s just pathetic.

@cincyute, that is a poopyhead thing to say.

Just because it’s poopy doesn’t mean it’s not true.

I’ve come to realize most of the active users of this site are selfish, willfully ignorant man-children.

So in your opinion what part of that post is not true?

The only pathetic part of it is where we are now compared to where we once were.  I understand cycles in sports etc but we constantly underperform in basketball and overperform in football.  It’s time to take out the trash that is this coach.  Cut off the head of the snake and let’s see what happens

Spot-on @Walkman…couldn’t have said it better. How anyone can disagree, makes absolutely no sense to me…unless it’s a Zoob posing as a Ute fan on here or someone personally related to Larry K. Is that the case @CincyUte?

I don’t disagre with the need for improved coaching in BB, I just am not at the level of anxious as some.  To be fair, I have liked some of the coaches we let go.  McBride’s firing was a suprise to me and a bit unwanted.  However, my son was an intern in the athletic department and on the first day Urban was here he got the assignment to take the new coach arouond to the faternities and sororites for introductions.  After spending several hours with Urban, he called me and told me he was sure the new coach would be awasome, which made me feel better.  He also sat at the end of the table next to the BB team in the Hunty and told me long before anyone else that Giacoletti needed to go and Boylen, right out of the shoot was not right.  Sometimes you bend the arrow up, sometimes you bend the arrow down, either way changing coaches is a crap shoot.

I don’t think Larry is the best coach in the Pac, I also don’t think he is the worst.  Not sure, but I think he has averaged a finish about the middle.  Roughly half better and half have been worse.  I think it will be hard to consistently be one of the top 2 or 3, but I am p**sed we pay for that but don’t get it.  All the BB programs in the Pac have pretty good resources for a BB coach.  I am realistic enough to see that often the new latest and greatest coach can be a ‘gutter ball’.  I want us to do better, I want us to go to the dance most years.  I just know a new coach is just not always a silver bullet.  I have been here since before the Special Events Center opened in 69 and I very much feel we are due for the next great run in BB.

I would have to disagree with you on talent development.  I think lately you could make a strong case but earlier on Larry drew out a ton of talent from his team and both Delon and Jacob benefited greatly from he and his staff’s development skills.  It seems like lately though Larry has been coasting.

Utah is still #13 in all time wins in men’s NCAA basketball history.

I’d love to see us get back to our old, winning ways!
