I’ll never understand fans who want to stop playing BYU. You act like College Football is the NFL and so ridiculously important, so what if it’s a “lose-lose” sort of. Big freakin deal. Rivalry is what makes CFB awesome and TDS is 100% our rival and the only rival where there is real hate and disdain. We have no other real rival. Sure we think USC and Arizona State are rivals but they’ll never hate us or view us the way BYU does. No other game livens up the state and get’s everyone involved. And let’s be honest, the Holy War is the only game that gets Utah on the map each year if we aren’t in contention for a Pac-12 championship. It’s one of the best rivalries in sports and we should all be embracing it.
The only thing I can conclude is that on message boards like this fans fall into an idiotic group think circle jerk who like to be edgy and hate the fact Utah has a real rivalry that most fan bases would love to have. Getting rid of it is just cutting off our nose to spite our face.

I too love the rivalry. Amd I want to play it every year because only a couple things would be more satisfying in any given year then drinking byu tears. Those would be a division and conference title and a playoff appearance. But those don’t come around every dang day. Beating byu does.
I do however support not playing them in a year where we have 9 conference games and are playing Florida or Michigan. I support a break when there is a good reason. But otherwise, let’s play!

Agree with this post and gave it an enthusiastic thumbs up. Although I’d like to distance myself from the “idiot fans group think circle jerk” part. 😁

he made a decent argument in the first paragraph. then decided to throw it away with by belittling the people who did not share his opinion in the second. earned the thumbs down.
name calling usually doesn’t bring people around to your opinion, even if you are right.

I’m glad you love playing BYU so much. That’s fine. But don’t kid yourself into thinking that it’s just the message board crowd that doesn’t hold “the in-state game” in such high regards as you do.
Meanwhile, you should be happy to know that BYU fans generally agree with your sentiment.

I’m fine either way honestly but the game must always be played early. Doesn’t make sense to play later in the year ever as it can only hurt us at that point. I like the rivalry but would always drop to play an Ohio State, Michigan, Clemson etc in an instant.

I didn’t vote up or down on your post because I respect your opinion. However, calling those out who don’t feel the same as you seems inappropriate. I don’t like the game and feel that it is not good for Utah. BYU has a lot to gain and we don’t. That being said, I can understand why other Ute fans feel differently than I do.
We can agree to disagree, but calling our own fans names crosses the line IMO.
Go Utes!!!

I’m not going to down vote you. However, I have friends all over the country who have dealt with that delusional fanbase and school.

I hate the former rivalry, and see no reason to continue it. Utah used to have a huge rivalry with Colorado, back while we were in the same conference in the earlier part of the 20th century, but when they’d left to join the Big 8, it started to fade.
Utah used to have a big rivalry with Utah St too, but when USU was blocked from joining the WAC back in the early 60s, that rivalry too started to fade.
So with every big rivalry we used to have, it always faded after one of the pair moved on to a higher league. The tdS is bound for that direction, and I say good riddance to them.
I’ve grown tired of their martyr complex. Always claiming religious discrimination if they don’t get what they want, and religious perogative when it goes the other way.
I’ve grown tired of their lies about the horrors of RES. Every single zoobie I’d ever heard claimed they’d attended a game in SLC all had beer poured on them. Yet in my entire time as a student, I’d never seen any such behavior. Max lied.
I’ve grown tired of hearing how superior their program is when they eke out a win, and how the better team didn’t win whenever they get blown out.
I say either force them to submit to a 2-for-1 with us, like they do with Notre Dame, or let ’em pound sand, and go play Utah St. Why should THEY be the only party to benefit from this game? 2-for-1 or no deal.

i too love it. we will lose one one day but hey, it’s a fun game and bragging rights are fun too. byu’s recruiting is not on par with utah. talent usually wins the battle as has been seen for several years. it’s always a fun game but so is BEATING USC ON THEIR HOME FIELD FOR ONCE !

We all need to storm Los Angeles this year.
“There is no escape and that’s for sure,
This is the end, we won’t take any more,
Say goodbye to the world you live in,
You’ve always been taking and now you’re giving…”

Insulting anyone that disagrees with you just shows you have no argument based on facts or reasoning.

The rivalry will never be the same since leaving the Mtn West. Don’t mean to come off as arrogant, but it is the biggest game of the year for the “in state team”. For the Utes it’s a no win situation. If they don’t win by a huge margin, then it’s like a loss. With that said, I want to continue scheduling them, but take years off to play teams like Florida and Michigan.

Ute2Participant
And by no win situation what you really mean is “win every time” situation.

I look at USC as our rival. We trade wins, compete for conference championships and as part of your requirment, I have a “hate and distain” for them.

The ONLY thing Brigham brings to the table is their scheduling flexibility. But that’s ONLY if they have a schedule that isn’t completely Pac12 and a few MWC teams and FCS. Harlan needs to demand it stop. It’s counterintuitive to the conference having multiple games and only diminishes the conferences SOS. TDS needs to schedule games across the country, with Utah being a yearly contest.
In 2019 TDS beat Tennessee and USC, but lost to Utah, Washington, Toledo, USF, and SDSU. The win over USC only lowered the perception of the Pac12 and dropped USC out of the top 25 ranking a week before playing #10 Utah and missing out on GameDay. Granted had USC lost to any team that week the result would have been the same, but had they scheduled an FCS or G5 and won, things would have been different.
Fact is the game draws more viewers than any other game between the two schools, but TDS needs to quit being TDS, and clean up their national perception.-

Does anybody else see ‘ONLY’ in all caps and subconsciously get excited for what ONLYu posted?

Honestly, the BYU/Utah game ratings are surprisingly mediocre.
Utah has had 32 games on national television over the past 4 seasons. Games against BYU rank #11, #22 and #24 in TV viewership.
