      big-12-is-seriously-discussing-byu

Nothing would be better for Utah and the end of playing BYU than BYU “arriving” into a situation where they are too “busy” and “important” playing in rural Texas and the Midwest. There is nothing wrong with that of course. We would have taken that 10 years ago too. But this could eventually lead to five or more years without a game. Can’t imagine a happier outcome than never having to deal with all of that.

If it means we don’t play them every year (or ever again for all I care) then I’m all for it. Let them go their separate way. Their fans will be even more insufferable, though.

Would the Big 12 be that desperate that they would consider TDS? I thought they would look at other schools like Houston , SMU, Cincinnati, or a Florida school before they would subject themselves to the drama that is byu. Whatever happens, I just hope we can permanently purge them from our future schedules.

I’ve been listening to some big 12 radio. Yes they would be that desperate. They know it would relegate them to non-p5 status but at least they’d be the best non-p5 league. And with the expanded playoff, that would be enough to get the conference champion in the playoff. At least that’s what I’m hearing few of them say.

Even if they do end up joining the big12, I would think they would want to continue to prioritize the in-state game as one of their 3-4 non-conference games. Why wouldn’t they?

This will be interesting to watch. Their biggest hurdle will be no-sunday play for other sports. Maybe they join as football only?

I think that them joining hurts Utah, albeit slightly, from a recruiting perspective simply because you’ll have more teams (big12) playing/recruiting in our state. BYU will probably start winning more in-state recruiting battles. That said, we continue to trend towards recruiting nationally (CA, TX, FL even GA) so I’m not sure it matters much. If anything, if we are required to play them annually (thanks to the legislature) they might as well be perceived as a P5 program. But of course it could turn out that the big12 gets relegated to g5/6 status anyway. That would be hilarious to see!!

They are g5 right now without Texas and ou…even adding byu will keep them there. TCU and Texas tech are not flagship programs of a power league

If they added BYU, Cincy, UCF and Houston, they’d still be g5. Adding only g5’s and no bluebloods makes them g5.

Will big xii look past Sunday play?

I would love and hate them in the big xii. Love it for the reasons above in that we won’t see them and when we do play them it’s a “p5” (lol).

I’d hate it because somehow their fans will be so much worst! They’ll think they’re the flagship program of their league and they’ll have big xii stickers on their cars (like us haha). And I get the feeling they’ll make billboards of “welcome to big xii country”

I really don’t know which one I want!

They will have no choice, if they are trying to replace Texas and OU in the aggregate for media rights they need teams that “get on base.”  Nobody left available “gets on base” more than the in state team and it is not even close.  The AAC teams don’t move the needle in their own markets much less nationally.

They have already achieved insufferable on steriods. If you have the intestinal fortitude to read their board they are already projecting themselves as top third of both the PAC12, had they been invited, and the Big12.1 if and when they arrive. Some of my favorites:

where BYU fans see the PAC 12 pecking order and where BYU would fit if invited.

        PAC:

        Washington

        Oregon

        USC

        Stanford

        Utah

        UCLA

        Arizona St.

        Cal

        Washington St.

        Oregon St.

        Arizona

        Colorado

        BYU fan:

        I’d guess #4 in PAC.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA riiiiiight they would be 4th ahead of USC and Utah.

        and then thers this one:

I think consistently 3rd or 4th in the Pac with 1 or 2 championships in the first 10 years, and

consistently top 3 in the Big 12 with 3 championships in the first 10 years.

They’re unhinged. What’s their record with the PAC 12, like 6-16 or something like that? That would put them on par with Colorado currently.

Fine.  Now instead of there being 8 unwanted leftover schools, there will be 9 unwanted leftover schools.

Unless ND joins the Big 12 (not going to happen) they will become one of the best mid majors. In that role the still have almost any G5 team that they can draw in. The Y will have a lot of competition to get in. If the Y did get in that could still be good for us in that they will become focused on their own conference championship, need cupcakes to pad the out-of-conference schedule and have reduced interest in Utah and Utah State.
