Brewer looks good.
We will be lucky to beat BYU next weekend
-
therealuParticipant
Thomas will be really good, but has to hold onto the ball.
-
NavyUteParticipant
You realize ASU is struggling against SUU, a much lesser opponent? Calm down, WSU is good, and we aren’t showing any offense.
-
therealuParticipant
Whataboutisims don’t apply. That was a SLOPPY opening game from Utah.
The good news is that Brewer looks legit, and there are 3 good options at RB (again, I think Pledger is the worst of the 4).
Now, Kyle will get s**t together, and we will most likely win weekend, again. But this most certainly was not an impressive win

BleedsRedUteParticipant
Yes, Thomas was clearly the best running back tonight, with Bernard close behind. Sometimes it is difficult to improve the ability for a RB to hold onto the ball. It looked like he had good posession of the ball on the handoff and as he got hit, so it is troubling the ball got knocked loose. Like you say, hope he can hold onto the ball in coming games.

And to the fellas for down voting: if you think the way we played tonight will beat BYU next weekend, please don’t place too pricey of a bet
We should win by 2+ scores, but have to play waaay cleaner.

Itacoatiara22Participant
You do realize that the Sugar Bowl year Utah beat Weber St. 37-21, right?
You just can’t take a lot from these FCS games. -
MauchDawgUteParticipant
Run blocking needs improvement for sure but give some credit for pass blocking. They were not garbage. Biggest improvement happens between week 1 and 2. We played how many games last year and Weber played in the spring and are well coached. Also vanilla what he said.
-
therealuParticipant
Brewer took NUMEROUS shots tonight. Pass blocking was poor, especially early on

Central Coast UteParticipant
Honestly my biggest complaint were the drops. Three passes that I saw were dropped and two would have been TD’s.
-
therealuParticipant
Drops were bad, and Utah was lucky that Solo’s TD counted. There were 14 pts early that counted for 6, have to clean it up.

Go watch your Matlock reruns, ornery curmudgeon. It’s probably past your bedtime anyway. ✌

Cry much🤦🏻♂️, you must need a diaper changing because you just don’t stop crying! Just admit it already, just admit that you’re a undercover BYU fan! Get it off your chest already😂
-
therealuParticipant
Okay boomer?
I say that MOSTLY in jest. Honestly, that was a pretty poor showing tonight.
Brewer was GREAT. 3 of the 4 RBs were good.
OL was poor.
Defense overall was meh.
Have to play better to win next week.

Umm Utah will beat poo poo. But this game will not be fun to review. The film is going to be unkind.
Gassers all around I think. -
AlohaUteParticipant
Lol, nothing like massive overreaction after a fine win.
I swear some people.

LOL 🤣 2008 people said the same thing. Yet Weber is pretty loaded this time.

MDUteParticipant
Seemed like your typical season opener where lots of mistakes are made. Props to Jay Hill and Weber St, definitely not your typical FCS opponent. However, the 1 play that was most disappointing to me was not being able to punch it in on the 1 inch line. In fact we lost yardage on the play. That’s where our OL has to be able to win the battle. We’ve seemed to have so much trouble on short yardage plays like that in the past.
But all in all, plenty of film for our coaches to dissect, clean up, and make that largest amount of improvement that’s always talked about going from week 1 to week 2. I still expect us to win by 2+ scores next week and the 2 weeks after that.
I really don’t think we will know how good this team truly is until the USC game. For me, that game will show if we have what it takes to win the conference this year. Questions such as…can our secondary hang with that level of talent?…can we win the battle in the trenches or do we get out-physical’d? I’m optimistic the talent is there, just hoping we can put it all together! Go Utes!!

It’s tough to take much away from any FCS game. Utah will keep it vanilla. For all we know they O line was given different schemes all game to see what works in a game setting.
I expect Utah to do just fine and win 10+ games this season

You can say that again.

We are really going to refer to a game 13 years ago to justify tonights showing?
Look, tonight was mediocre at best. Have to see the OL improve dramatically to have any chance of somethig special this year
-
JohnnyBlocked
Yes. Weber way more loaded than the goggle wearing people living in a bubble down south
