So, we’re about to start a fairly brutal 5-game stretch.  I’m curious to see how the fine posters of UteHub think we will fare with these games?  Feel free to chime in with your prediction on these games.

      @ USC  L

      Az St  L

      at Oregon St L

      UCLA  W

      at Stanford  L

I think we’re in for a tough 5 weeks, going 1-4.  It’s going to take a little more time for our young team to get up to speed.  There’s nothing wrong with this.  Really, we should have expected this more having only 3 senior (Howard, McKinney & Davis) starters.  Youth, coupled with the rash of injuries and one alien abduction of a starting offensive lineman (Simi Moala), is why I am predicting this result.  So flame away… I’d like to hear some of your thoughts..

Unfortunately I can’t necessarily argue against your picks, though I think UCLA could be a loss. I think we will have perhaps one surprise win.  Hopefully it is tomorrow, but I don’t see it happening if USC shows up like they always do against us at home.

Unfortunately I have to agree with Tony. I’m not expecting any wins through this stretch. If I’m wrong, I’ll be happy. If not, I’m not going to hold it against this team. I’ll be at the Stanford game cheering for them either way.

I expect us to win at least 2 of those 5 games at a minimum. That’s not saying those teams aren’t better than we are, but Whitt and co. have consistently proven their ability to do more with less. This team has some glaring weaknesses, but I’d still expect them to be better than the 5-7 teams of the early Pac-12 years which did as much.

I actually don’t really think we’ll win any of these games but I figure one of the five opponents will have an off-night.  I gambled that UCLA would be that team.

Utes go 5-0. First win in the Coliseum in over 100 years!

You might wonder about my optimism.

But it’s simple: I never pick against the Utes. 😎

      Go UTES!

I probably need to adopt your attitude, Smack, but my My Bookie account would take a beating if I did ;).

I love everything about this answer. Optimism never hurt anyone, it also isn’t good to always be a pessimist.

I am a lifer, regardless of how high the highs, and how low the lows. It’s fun, its entertainment, and it’s the team I choose to root for.

        Simple as that.

A win tomorrow completely changes the temperature.
Right now Utah matches up poorly with USC.  Utah does match up well with fUCLA and Oregon St is my belief. Oregon st is like watching Utah. Clutching to a lead like a little child on a rollercoaster. Utah also always matches up well with Stanford. Arizona st is in the driver seat for the south. Loads of momentum. Pains me to say it.

I’m going out on a limb and saying Utah goes 4-1.

Oregon State, UCLA and Stanford all play into Utah’s strengths on defense. In a world where Utah didn’t spend the last two weeks trying to figure out how to move forward after Aaron Lowe, I would have been extremely confident that Utah would find a way to get enough offense to win all three, the margin of victory depending on turnover margin. Since those 3 are on the back end of the stretch, I’m going to stick with it.

USC and ASU were both losses for me before the season but those teams also have shown enough flaws that I think Utah is going to get one of them. And in a bizarro year where nothing can run true to form, I might as well pick a road win and a home loss.

4-1 with the only loss to ASU is my hope.

You may end up being right.  Trying to predict this conference is like trying to herd kittens or nail jello to the wall.  It looks like we’re on the opposite ends of the spectrum with our expectations.  It’ll be interesting to see who’s right.  I hope it’s YOU.

Just like a broken clock, I get to be right every once in a while. Wish I was smart enough to plan for those rare occasions.

If the team can finally get back to being greater than the sum of their parts starting tomorrow, there really isn’t anything I’ve seen this season from the Pac that makes me think Utah doesn’t have as good a chance moving forward as anyone else. But they need to figure it out quick because they haven’t played up to even the most pessimistic prognostication to this point.

We win 2 of the next 5, with at least one if the wins against USC, ASU, or UCLA.

We then win 2 of the last 3 for 6-6 overall.

Great posts everyone. I think all of these games will take on a life of its own. With the way things have gone so far (for us as well as the entire conference) I just don’t have the 1st damn clue what’s going to happen. I could see our team getting on a roll and taking firm control of the South. And I can also see us continue to struggle, especially with the competition ratcheting up. I think the safe bet is somewhere in the middle, winning 2 or 3 of the next 5…but at this point, my expectations are way low and nothing will surprise me good or bad. Go Utes!

Every game is winnable….But each can equally be lost….I’m at least pretty confident w/our two home games in being likely victories….And I don’t believe Palo Alto to be an intimidating venue.

If I had to choose just one game I want to win most, 10/16’s it….That’s one arrogant fanbase & cheating program….You’d figure they’d actually accomplished something in the last quarter century.

Hard to argue.  I think our youth combined with the recent tragedies has reminded me how important the game really is….. not very.  I still love Utah Football, but watching these kids grow both on and off the field is what I’m going to try and remember to celebrate from here on.  Go Utes!

I think with our defense all of these games will be competitive and hard fought. We historically have matched up well against Stanford so I do think we can win that game. USC has been inconsistent so tomorrow will be interesting but i think it’s winnable. I think being at home vs Arizona State and UCLA will be important for us but those matchups will definitely be tough. Then for Oregon State, I kinda want to see how they do the next few weeks to see if they are legit or not. With all that said, I think a 3-2 record would be a win, 4-1 would be awesome. I can also see us going 1-4, 0-5 which would be tough to see but this team is going through a lot, so I wouldn’t hold it against them if this season kind of fell apart.
