Participantearlier), what do you guys think of hiring him as the Utah OC. On one hand, I like the continuity we have with Roderick. On the other hand, I have my doubts if he will ever be able to deliver us an elite offense…

InactiveWe are more successful on fourth down than Oregon so no.

Utah
ParticipantNo, because his offensive philosophies and whitt’s are so different. It wouldn’t work. We need a pro style guy ala Chow…or…Roderick.
Stay at the course. Good things are happening. Let Troy develop under ARod.

ParticipantI am not confident that Troy will develop under ARod. Travis Wilson didn’t and I am not sure that ARod has the experience or qualifications to develop a QB.
As for the different philosophies, they are not different than what Whittingham tried to do with Ludwig, are they?

ParticipantI think Wilson was a better QB after ARod took over.
Also, Troy has gotten better every week.
I think Whitt knows what he wants out of his offense now, whereas before, he was just letting the OC throw stuff against the wall to see what sticks. I think Whitt wants a ball control offense that runs the clock and takes shots down field.
I’m not sure a hurry up, put your defense in a bad situation type offense is what Whitt is looking for.

KeymasterImagine if he was fired. Top 10 team for years, even went to the NC game a couple of years ago. Yeah, fire him after a down year or two.

ParticipantNot really sure why we’re discussing bringing in a new OC. What’s been different this year to result in better offensive production? Consistency at the OC. ARod, Ericson, and Harding bring more than enough offensive knowledge and experience in the PAC. Football from high school to NFL run the same basic plays. Execution and consistency are more important. Travis Wilson may have had a different trajectory in production if he hadn’t been learning a new system every year with Utah.

Inactivea) Helfrich will not be fired
b) a Helfrich offense is polar opposite of the possession game that Whitt prefers.
c) Arod is going nowhere. Our issues on offense are execution, particularly in the redzone.-

ParticipantNot sure why you think Helfrich won’t be fired… he’s ranked as the 4th hottest seat in CFB.

InactiveHelfrich had them competing for the NC two years ago. They’re down due to misses at QB and that can and does happen to everyone. Utah knows this intimately. Talking heads talk because they have to fill two hours with nothing to talk about.
