I keep seeing top300 recruits decommiting from USC, Washington, and maybe even Stanford.
This presents a huge problem and also a huge advantage in my mind.
The problem is if top300 recruits keep bleeding to other conferences especially the SEC, the Pac12 is going to be weaker vis a vis these other conferences. And we all know there is a perception problem when it comes to the Pac12 across the nation.
The huge advantage in my mind could be IF Utah picks up some of these, and I’m not sure if Utah will or should. Can Utah pick up some of these top 300 decommits from USC/Stanford/Washington? I think Kyle’s system has always worked very well with underrecruited players who are out to prove something. As long as Kyle is here we’re not going to deal with the prima donna attitudes. But can we find the CPIIIs who want to become us, instead of us adapting to them?
Chris Peterson made a comment yesterday about Kyle being such a great coach, and complimenting him on how he’s kept the program together this year with his leadership. Then he made a comment about how tough it is to keep a team moving in the same direction, even when you have a good winning team. It made me wonder about the USC, Washington and Oregon jobs, and less so the UCLA job, where they are pulling in really good athletes but might have more locker room issues.
I don’t really like Saban, but I doubt Alabama has as many locker room issues as other teams. Saban doesn’t seem to tolerate that nor allow it. Maybe I’m wrong. But I think the Pac12 needs to get it together or we’re going to slide further down the scale and may even get passed by the Medium XII in the next decade.
Utah is poised to take advantage of the situation in the Pac 12 right now, I hope we do.
