Basically the Coyotes lost access to their home ice because they stopped paying taxes to the city of Glendale (to the tune of $1.3 Million!) and were locked out.

So they came to an agreement with ASU to use their hockey arena but aren’t allowed to change or cover up any of the existing ASU advertising (and have to leave the ASU logo at center ice)

The best part is the “good behavior clause” Which is hilarious because ASU is the school that employs Herm and Hurley as their two main sports coaches….

the clause states that anything that violates “widely held principles of public morality, failing to conduct its business affairs with a high degree of integrity and honesty and/or failing to act as a good corporate citizen” would be cause for the agreement’s termination

      A little more information:

They didn’t get locked out over the taxes, they paid in time to avoid that but it certainly contibuted to the city activating the early out clause and not extending the lease agreement.

The Coyotes will have to leave the ASU logo on the ice but will have theirs as well. In arena, they can cover advertising but nothing permanent (banners, etc.).

The “good behavior clause” is standard for all contracts ASU makes with external entities (state institution and all that). It is a bit rich given their high-profile coaches…

It’s worth emphasizing that the ASU arena that the Coyotes will be using is NOT the 14,100-seat Desert Financial Arena where the Sun Devils basketball team plays.  Instead, they’ll be hosting other NHL teams in ASU’s brand new 5,000-seat multi-purpose arena.
