      Twin-Bill today…

      #54 Hayden Furey, Junior LB, 6-2, 226

Hayden is from Sarasota Springs, UT; he graduated from Westlake HS in 2018, where he played basketball and football.  In his senior year for the Thunder had 49 tackles, 2 for loss, and a pass breakup on defense and 39 catches for 526 yds and 6 TDs on ohfense.   At Utah he played mainly on special teams in 2019-2020 after walking on in 2019, and then 14 games at LB in 2021, with 4 starts.   Should see more of the same in 2022 though competition is high in the LB room.

      #54 Paul Maile, Junior OL, 6-2, 304

Paul Maile (my-lay) is a local from East High.  His stepfather is Henry Kaufusi (Utah 94-95, yes we’re all getting old). Paul was a 2-time All-State, All-Region player for the Leopards, playing OL and on defense.  While a junior lineman the Leopards’ ohfense set state records for points, rushing yards and total yards.  At Utah Maile took a red shirt in 2018 after playing in two games, played in 8 games in 2019, 2 games in the shortened 2020 season and 5 games in 2021, including 4 starts, 1 at RG and 4 at center.  He earned his degree in Family Community and Health Development in December, 2021.   Though he missed spring camp, he seems to be the odds-on favorite to start at center for 2022 after paying his dues over the last 4 years.

Forgot to ask if someone might have info on why Paul Maile missed spring camp?  Saw a brief mention of it without explanation.

Injury.  Can’t remember what it was, but he’s expected back for fall camp.

Hope it was a hangnail and not knee surgery.
