#11 Makai Cope and R.J. Hubert
Makai Cope, RS Freshman WR, 6-3 195
Hollywood Cope comes from Culver City, California and is studying film and media arts. On the football field his role is WR and special teams. At Utah he saw action in 2 games in 2021, both on special teams, so he made that a redshirt year. In High School he grabbed 46 catches for 802 yards (17.4 ypc) and 9 touchdowns in 2019, as Culver City won the Ocean League championship. For his efforts he was named to All-Ocean First Team. Makai was able to see game action in his first year for the Utes, so I look for an expanded role for him in 2021.

R.J. Hubert, Senior Safety, 6-0 198
R.J., similar to Britain Covey, is maximizing his college eligibility. He graduated from high school, Moapa Valley, HS in Logandale, Nevada, in 2016. He commited to the Utes before serving a mission in the southern US, LSU country. He joined the Utes in 2018, played in 7 games, in 2018; 13 games in 2019 with 3 starts; 4 games in 2020 and 1 games in 2021, in a mix of special teams and safety play. His best year was 2019 with 22 total tackles, a forced fumble and pass breakup. He had Washington State’s number, logging 7 tackles in the 2019 game vs WSU. In high school he played WR, RB, Safety and kick returner while also running track (4.5 in 40-yard dash). His performance, including knack for finding the end zone (scored 41 TDs by air, 13 as RB and 5 as a returner) earned him 2015 Nevada Division 1A Offensive Player of the Year, 2014 1A MVP, and 2015 All-Southern Region Offensive MVP. Hubert seems like a solid safety but is probably a victim of the numbers of quality recruits brought in at that position. Expect to see him used in special teams and sparingly as a safety in 2022. Looking for someone to return kicks?, RJ could get a tryout there. Anyone know who is trying out for that?
