Wondering

Tied first two games against Wales and England. Need a win against Iran to advance to next round.

Soccer is just an awful sport….ties. Like seriously. Worst ever.

1,000,000,000% agree Eagle!

The NFL has ties too. Soccer is the best sport on the planet and it’s not even close, and 7.5 billion people (the whole word minus the U.S.) agree. Anyway…
The USMNT is doing OK. They are the youngest team at the World Cup and only one player on the roster has played in the World Cup before. The opening game vs. Wales showed exactly what we thought they were: A young team with insane talent, but raw and inexperienced. They bossed most of the game but managed to p**s away a win. Their second game was a big step forward – they were the better team by a country mile against a powerhouse England and were inches away from a win, but ended up drawing. Now they have a win or go home game against Iran on Tuesday. If they keep improving game over game like they have so far, watch out.
Sorry you don’t like soccer. That must suck.

Two games in the “world’s greatest sporting event” and you TIE 1-1 and 0-0 in both of them. You play for 90-minutes and no one can score so you tie (or draw)???!!!!! Congratulations, you just ran around “the pitch” for 90-minutes and were unable to kick the little ball into the big net…we’ll give you a point anyway. Participation trophy for everyone!

Here’s what I love about every soccer post: That people have to come on it and tell everyone how much they hate it. It’s funny because it only ever happens with soccer.
For example, I suspect most of us don’t really like figure skating (I know I don’t). But if someone started a post about figure skating, we would all just ignore it. You wouldn’t see a post saying “figure skating blows…there’s no contact and the music is stupid and the outfits are stupid and the judges are corrupt.” You only ever see this kind of response with soccer. Why is that?
I suspect it’s because soccer is massively growing in popularity in the U.S. and some people feel it’s threatening the established status quo of the big 3 American sports, so they get defensive, and it is manifest by lashing out about how much they don’t like it. Figure skating is threatening anything so the traditionalists leave it alone. Can anyone confirm that my suspicion is correct?

It must suck to not like something that is popular? Yeah I guess so. I don’t enjoy a lot of popular things. I am not saying anything about superior sports. But I would take the athletes in the the NFL and the NBA and they would crush soccer players in athletic ability.

Ignorance is bliss.

I tried to watch it for the first time since 94 and it’s every bit as awful as I remember it. More power to those who can get into it. I just cant.

“If you like soccer, then welcome to America. See, our country already has entertainment so watching people chase a ball for four hours to end 0-0 is not enjoyable- unless, of course, the bleachers collapse and half of Europe dies”. Daniel Tosh

Haha. I like that everyone who thumbs down our comments lacks the conviction to defend the crap sport.

I didn’t thumbs down any posts, but I’ll defend the sport. Each match is a stage play, a drama that unfolds for 90 minutes. It is a simple, clean game, with very little equipment required. It is the unifying sport across the globe outside of the US. It is community. It is life.

It is lame. To quote my Dad, “it’s more fun to watch paint dry than to watch a soccer game!”

I am lame also.

…and just as much scoring.

I scored once watching paint dry.
