They could for the next two years, but then be left with no contract in the new CFP world (12-team playoff) and have to try to negotiate deals with conferences (PAC12/B1G) which will follow the money of the CFP and get in line rather than committing their top (or replacement) teams to the Rose Bowl just for tradition’s sake. Money, unfortunately, will ruin it, so Rose will need to comprimise and move their bowl game time, or even occassionally, the date, to accomadate if they hope to survive relatively intact with top level teams (NY6/CFP) going forward.
