I hate to say it because I’m a huge Utah Football fan but were a “false team” and what I mean by that is we can consistently win against good teams and we are outstanding at home against good to great teams but we just can’t compete against those same great teams on the road or at neutral sites. We just can’t! I believe this is the 4th straight bowl loss and that’s terrible!
I’m not sure what the fix is to winning against great teams away from home? Maybe the coaches don’t know either it looks like…
This is an embarrassing loss and it’s not gonna help recruiting despite this next class being in the top 20. We’ve made it to the so called “mountain top” but unless we start winning when we get there we’ll always be just a “good team or well coached team.”
Next years schedule is rough with or without Rising. I can honestly see us going something like 7-5.
This loss really really hurts!!! Damn! -

Who was it that kicked the crap out of USC and Oregon in back to back Pac12 title games at neutral sites?
-
RoboUteParticipant
That did used to be us, we have moved a bit past that. Just not far enough.
-
ReconUteParticipant
Awesome we beat both USC and Oregon, who like us this year never deserved the rankings they held!
I was correct, this is 4 straight bowl losses and that’s terrible! Theres no way to spin that! Even with my crimson goggles I can’t spin that!
Still a Ute and always will be but I’m tired of being a good team now. Now is the time to be great!!

We lost to Oregon.

Talk about over reacting

UteFanaticParticipant
This is a bit of an overreaction. Utah is not a “false team”. Rather, they are a good but not elite team. Utah is still punching above its weight talent-wise. The last two Rose Bowls were against teams that recruit multiple 5 star athletes every year and have good, proven coaches. Losses shouldn’t be a surprise. In fact, they should be expected.
Admittedly, it’s frustrating to lose against mediocre teams like Florida. That was just a bad loss. But Utah has always had at least one inexplicable, head-scratching loss under Whittingham each year we’ve been in the Pac.
I’m OK with admitting that Utah will never be an elite team. Every other Pac-12 teams would trade places with Utah over the last 4 full seasons.

I think the more accurate assessment is that we aren’t quite deep enough to win against good teams when four or five of our best players are out. CPIII missing created a glaring hole in coverage and Cam + Kincaid being out kills our playmaking ability.
I was at the Alamo Bowl and it was very similar on the defensive side of the ball having Johnson and Blackmon out…it’s a drop off from our 1’s to our 2’s until we consistently win (and keep) more talented recruiting classes

Calling Utah false just seems like something you want to believe.
Or you watched Lord of the Rings recently.
“False hobbitses”. -

I came by to check out what I was sure would be totally rational takes following a tough loss and I’m not disappointed.
“False teams” don’t win P5 conference championships. It just doesn’t happen.
-
UteFanaticParticipant
Agreed. If Utah is a “false team” then there is a whole hell of a lot of teams more “false” than Utah. Like 110 (out of 130) more.
Being a top 20 team and back-to-back conference champions in a P5 league (a league, mind you, that was pretty solid this year) is nothing to scoff at. A lot of teams would love to have the kind of success Utah has over the last couple of seasons.
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
I just don’t know what “False” team means. Like Paper Tiger or is it something else? Like false teams don’t beat up SC Lincoln twice in a season do they? What measurement is there for falseness?
-
noneyadbParticipant
USC lost to Tulane up 45-30. Bwahahahaha. If U$uC is the measuring stick then yes Utah is overrated.
-
D TParticipant
When did USC lose to Tulane 45-30?
-
UteFanaticParticipant
1. The score wasn’t 45-30, it was 46-45.
2. Tulane is a pretty dang good team this year.
3. USC still had 11 wins, and a prolific offense with a Heisman QB.
Don’t pretend that beating USC isn’t an accomplishment. It was two good wins for Utah.
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
He is a troll. But yeah it was funny when SUC gave up 16 points to lose.
-
UteFanaticParticipant
Always nice to see Big10 teams lose.

-
noneyadbParticipant
Maybe learn to read??? USC lost to Tulane up 45-30… Not sure what’s so difficult about that. But, USC was a paper tiger, they played a very easy schedule and were Utah’s best W’s. If being a realist makes me a troll so be it.
-
UteFanaticParticipant
Oregon State was also a good win.

A false team, no. A deep team, no.

CityCreekUteParticipant
LOL.just lol.
There are only 15-20 programs really capable of competing for their conference title 4 years straight like Utah has. And before you say covid.
Not only does covid not count it actually is more a o feather in the cap of the coaches to be able to deal with it and navigate around it. -
noneyadbParticipant
Without Kincaid and Phillips Utah isn’t the same team. Plain and simple.
-
RedbloodParticipant
Then the PAC is “false” because we have won it 2 years in a row.
