I just listened to the Wilner/Canzano podcast with Big 12’s Yormark. First off: that guy is impressive.
Second: a huge damper. he confirmed that all Big 12 schools have signed the new grant of rights media deal. It really would’ve been in the PAC’s best interest to peel of Kansas, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and TCU from the Big 12. Maybe grab Houston and SDSU as well. That would’ve really screwed the Big 12 and BYU. But that isn’t an option right now. Time to move on.But, freaking Washington and Oregon have to hold up the whole thing in the slim-to-(more realistic) none chance that the BIG comes calling. Listen up UW and UO: the BIG isn’t calling before the next round of media deals. The PAC needs everyone to sign NOW. It needs to be a firm, ironclad agreement, otherwise the PAC won’t get the money, won’t get the distribution, which means the PAC won’t get the viewership or interest, and the narrative keeps slipping in the same trajectory it has for the last few years (poor viewership, poor fan support, poor out of conference performance). The PAC can NOT have the Big 12 separate themselves in those areas, which for some reason the media has already started to do. Again, UW and UO, act in your best interest and get this signed, or you’ll only be hurting yourselves and your chances in the next round.
The PAC really needs to come out of this a winner, but won’t unless everyone signs, signs strong, and signs now. The longer this drags out, the worse it’s going to be. I’ve been thinking Kliavkoff has been working magic behind the scenes and was about to pull a huge rabbit out of the hat, but I am starting to think the PAC is in serious trouble. This has to be addressed now.

I hope the PAC can hang together. 25-35 per school should be obtainable and enough for all conference teams. However, game attendance needs to improve for that number to improve during the next round.

I wouldn’t put too much stock in the Pac12 doomsday scenarios the Big12 media mafia has been relentlessly propagating. If any of the Pac12 schools felt the conference was in danger of not surviving and the media deal looked bad, a few schools would have already defected to the Big12 (who would embrace them with open arms). The fact that it hasn’t happened yet speaks volumes, and likely means an adequate TV deal is on the horizon. By adequate, I mean one comparable in value to the Big12’s – which is what knowledgeable people (such as Bob Thompson, former president of Fox Sports) have been saying would happen for months now.
Regarding UW and UO not wanting to sign a GOR, I’m not sure this is actually a thing. I haven’t seen one reputable source say they aren’t willing to sign a GOR with the Pac12. Of course they tried like hell to get into the Big10, but that’s obviously not going to happen (at least not anytime soon). So, what are UW/UO’s realistic options?
1. UW and UO refuse to sign GOR: not going to happen because there is no media deal without it.
2. UW and UO agree to a short-term GOR: could happen, but it means reducing the value of the media deal to an unacceptably low level. I doubt they would kneecap themselves based on hope that the Big10 accepts them in few years. They could sign a short-term GOR and request unequal revenue, but then the four corner schools would scoff at that and go to the Big12.
3. UW and UO go to the Big12: LOL. Not even worth discussing because it ain’t happening.
4. UW and UO sign a GOR that extends to the next round of TV deals (approx 2031): Big12 level of money, still a respectable conference, easy access to the playoff.
Which of those 4 is most likely? It’s obviously the 4th option. UW/UO know that the Big10 window has closed for now. Next opportunity is when the current Big10 and ACC GORs expire. At which point, there is going to be another HUGE realignment.
Here’s my prediction. This is going to have a very boring ending. The Pac12 expands with SDSU and SMU, signs a 5-7 year GOR with ESPN/ESPN+ and Amazon in the $30M per school range, and everyone hunkers down until the next round of realignment where s**t hits the fan and there is a nationwide shakeup.

The PAC-12 was never going to try to add teams from the Big 12 because they don’t bring you more money. The Big 12 is valuable because of Texas and Oklahoma. Without those two, it’s…I dunno. The Big East?
The B1G doesn’t want UO and UW. The TV people do. The old commissioner does. No one else does. No one wanted USC and UCLA.
The old commissioner pressured the B1G into adding those two and when he pressured for further expansion, he was let go.
The B1G doesn’t want western teams.

OU is leaving the XII for the SEC.

It really dilutes everyone’s brand. Going to California every few years sounds nice. But they prefer to do it in a CFP or Rose Bowl. Late in the year. Road trips are bad for both sides.
The whole big 12 thing is just smoke to me.
I think USC and fUCLA return by like 2026. The presidents of other schools in the p10 will smile and should swallow any pride. Does that mean more money for those schools if so? Idk. Oregon thinks they are a USC so I see them being the problem.

Tech, Okie St, and TCU bring solid ratings. If USC hadn’t inexplicably vetoed adding a couple of Big 12 schools back when they were secretly negotiating entry into the BigTen, not only would we have not been in the mess to begin with, we’d have secured a much better media deal (not “better” than had the SoCal schools stayed, but “better” than we would have had after they’d left).
That said, I believe UteFanatic is correct. Neither UW nor UO are defecting to the BigTen until at least after the ACC’s GoR expires, and the BigTen and the SEC liberate Clemson, Miami, and Florida St from their conference. After they’d been picked off, UW, UO, Stanford, Notre Dame, Virginia, and North Carolina will all be vying for entry. And after the BigTen and the SEC cherry pick their new members, the Pac-12 will be free to align with whichever ACC schools are left over (i.e. an “eastern” branch), and/or pluck whichever Big 12 teams we deem relevant enough — as their GoR would have expired by then as well.

Too many what ifs for the Big12 secret negotiations. So very speculative. I believe this all under Larry Scott? Pretty clear he was incompetent at this point. Say what you want about that but I don’t buy whatever he is selling now.
USC scumbags for the moves they made? Idk. They got a bad deal and doesn’t feel like enough was done to protect them when the NCAA sanctioned them.
