What a meet. 3rd after 2 rotations but NAILED bars and beam. Good to see McCallum back at anchor and kudos for O’Keefe for edging Jordan Chiles for all-around and the the team beating the Bruins a 4th time and even scoring a little more than OU.

Maile beat Jordan Chile’s for the all around championship too! And won the beam with a 10!

Correct me if I’m wrong but I believed we had the best score out of all semi final teams. If we can do it again we will be National Champs. It’s crazy that we make the finals so often but our last National Championship was 1995. Hopefully they can have a similar performance and get the W

We did, and we are rotating in the same order we did tonight on Saturday. (Start on floor, finish on beam)

PhiladelphiaUteParticipant
We did, but you’ll have to read about it in the SLTrib, because the DNews is having a hard time figuring out a way to write this as bad thing for Utah, and a good thing for ybU-p and the Big 12.

Huge confidence boost knowing we’ve already beat 2 of our remaining 3 opponents this season.

Thoughts as I was watching it.
1. After 2 rotations I thought we were done for. UCLA on floor put out such a strong lead, and with a mediocre Vault showing, Utah was as close to Kentucky as to UCLA. Didn’t think there was any way we’d pass UCLA at that point and would have to make up ground on #1 Oklahoma so would be tough.
2. We definitely benefitted from a weak UCLA vault rotation. They were in the driver’s seat but gave it away there. To our credit though, Utah absolutely nailed it in bars to take advantage. After that 3rd rotation, things were looking very solid for us (and Oklahoma)
3. Oklahoma is very good – see why they’re #1. Amazing to beat them, but in the 4th rotation our beam was incredible and their vault was pretty weak. I know our beam has been a strength all year, but I also wonder if Oklahoma’s vault was abnormally weak. They all seemed to be taking pretty big steps on the landings and I wonder if they were told (given the big lead they had over UCLA going into the last rotation) that they didn’t have to stick every landing, just so long as they didn’t fall. That they should err on the side of staying up.
4. That moment when Jordan Chiles got the 10 to surge into the all-around lead, only for Maile O’Keefe to take it away a minute later with her own 10? Absolutely amazing

Can’t say enough about MOK for her mental fortitude on that beam routine. She was mid-routine, standing on this narrow strip of wood, when Chiles’ 10 got posted and put UCLA in the lead. The whole place went ape. And somehow she was able to block it out and put up a perfect score of her own.
Big. Brass. Ones.

I was really worried that Grace might be rusty after being off for 2 months and coming back on the biggest stage but she went out there and proved why she is an Olympian.
