At least in terms of travel, the new conference is pretty similar to 25 years ago.

      – 4 Texas teams: TCU in both. Trade Rice for Houston (same city). UTEP/SMU for Texas Tech/Baylor. Travel slightly favors the WAC.
      – 1 Oklahoma team. You can fly into Tulsa and have a 10 minute ride to your hotel. I’m not sure you can fly into Stillwater so it would be OKC with an hour drive northeast. Advantage Tulsa.
      – Trade New Mexico for Arizona State. I’d call that a wash.
      – The parochial school stays the same.
      – Central Florida can’t be any farther away than Hawaii.
      – Boulder and Colorado Springs are about equidistant from Denver airport
      – Kansas & Kansas State aren’t any farther by car than San Diego State or Fresno. Both are less than an hour from Kansas City.
      – That leaves Vegas, Wyoming, Colorado State and San Jose State v Iowa State, Cincinatti, West Virginia and Arizona

In what world would ASU vs. UNM be a wash? I think you are looking at recent records as opposed to programs. Same with CU over CSU. The teams in the B12 are in a much more healthy status compared to the WAC and in terms of investment in the programs.

I think he’s just looking at travel distances

I was surprised to see that Albuquerque is actually closer to SLC than Phoenix.

FYI. Travel time via car is the same.
