Houston barely beat a G5, Baylor and Texas Tech lost to G5 teams, TCU lost, Ok State and BYU did not dominate, ASU barely snuck out alive. Can’t believe Pac 12 with USCLA and OrWa and other good teams is falling apart. Big 12 is lucky we are coming in next season to carry the whole conference. Utah, K State and maybe TCU/Colorado look to be the only rank-able teams out of 16 next year.

J RocksvilleParticipant
Ya I think it’s like most leagues, a couple of good teams at the top and a bunch of mediocre teams that you need to stay focused on to hold serve. I don’t think any conference can go 6-7 deep like this year’s pac.
Ucf looks solids though. Gaudy numbers against a trash team…. But that’s what you’re supposed to do. I think ucf, k state, Utah should all be solid and potentially Zona, asu, or Colorado could all start making noise.

This is what happens when you invite BYU to a conference. It immediately goes down in quality.

My biggest fear is that Utah gets infected and starts playing to the level of the competition in the Big 12. Unlike the remaining three P5 conferences, the Big 12 has zero football bluebloods on its roster. Not one…
-
alexsmithParticipant
I honestly think that Utah will only be in the Big 12 for 3-5 years. At that point, it will be 2 new conference with the best ~50 teams
-

Hopefully we can stay great for 10 more years because it might take that long for the next realignment. If we have the same brand as today we would make the cut but you never know what could happen once Whitt retires
-
RedLineParticipant
Really depends on the reputation of the new Big12 vs sec b10. If it’s viewed as mwc in comparison to previous P5 then quality recruits will only choose the 2 other conferences which will cause downstream effects in the program.
-

The Miami UteParticipant
I think that’s going to happen but that’s also a concern. There are a lot of crap football legacy programs (Rutgers, Maryland, Indiana, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Miss St, etc, etc, etc…) currently in the SEC and B1G (and also ACC) that fully expect to be members of that elite conference whenever it takes shape. To be clear, that new conference can’t take all those teams and Utah as well. Some teams are going to be left behind. I just hope that Utah isn’t one of them.
-
Central Coast UteParticipant
The B1G and the SEC will keep the crap teams for built-in wins.
-
The Miami UteParticipant
Except that the networks are the ones that are calling the tune, not the conferences…the networks don’t want “built-in” wins. What they want is an “NFL Lite” where, on any given Saturday, any team can beat another and maintain a high level of interest in the product. An ecosystem like that will gather a lot of eyeballs and is worth a lot of money.

Lolololol when y’all win a national championship or even make the playoffs let me know.
-
RoboUteParticipant
So which of those teams is yours? lmao
-
TexasRancher45Participant
It won’t be utah football. Lolol
-
RoboUteParticipant
Won’t be? What are you dating around? Nervous to settle down? lmao pick where you went to school this isn’t tinder. What kind of desperation in life leads one to shop teams to be a fan of in sports?
-
TexasRancher45Participant
I’m settled but I’m not childish like you spewing nonsense.
-
RoboUteParticipant
Ah we’re playing that game then.
Playing dumb when accused of being dumb is an interesting strategy but at least it’s on brand. You’re a straight shooter Mr Rancher, I’ll come to you if I’m ever in the market for velcro shoes.

TexasRancher45Participant
Like I said when y’all win a National championship or even make the playoffs let me know. Lol

Ignore the zoob troll. They aren’t here to provide anything of worth.

A BYU fan with a bobcat as their avatar, that would be funny.

This feels like a huge overreaction to a single bad week.

Big 12 is our future, lean in. One opening week of one season is hardly a sample size. We’re no strangers to slow starts.

Lucky Utah is coming in? No need to be arrogant.
Transfer portal can change programs over night. First game of the year is the first game of the year. -

TCU is just in a rebuilding year. They should be fine. But I agree about Ok State, TTU, and Baylor. After all that smack talk about how they would be in the mix every year, and then they go and perform the way they did, big yikes. Although I think UCF could be really good, and KSU under Klieman looks good.
-
MattParticipant
You know nothing about how good the Big 12 is after one week. I’ve seen Power 5 teams lose to 1 AA (FCS, but I refuse to call it that. I’m old school) and go on to win the conference. Washington lost to Montana a couple of years ago. Pac teams have lost to Portland St, Sacramento St, and others over the years.
I didn’t watch Baylor, but some of these Sunbelt, CUSA type teams are sneaky athletic. That is what BYU found out last night. It’s difficult to get up for game like this. BYU is used to opening their season vs P5 teams so this is new to them. Their schedule in Indy had to be front loaded with 4 or 5 P5’s because once conference play started, it was difficult for them to schedule anyone decent after September. You watch, BYU will have another unimpressive win against SUU next Saturday and then will be huge underdogs to Arkansas on the road the next week, and then they will play out of their minds and pull off an upset. Kalani is famous for this.
In any case, the new Big 12 next year will be fine. 16 P5 teams and there will be 5 or so really really good teams. I assume Utah will be in the top 4 as long as Kyle coaches.
-
Central Coast UteParticipant
I get your point, but the UW team was awful. That coach lasted 2 years and punched a player on the sideline. I agree the B12 isn’t terrible but highly doubt byu is going to upset Arkansas unless they get a new OC quick. Arod isn’t it. And remember Kalani had trouble even getting across midfield against LSU
-
The Miami UteParticipant
LOL…yeah, that was Jimmy “Mistake By The” Lake…
-
2008 National ChampParticipant
That UW team wasn’t awful, they were just horribly coached. Just like half of the Clay Helton USC teams.
When roughly the same personnel goes from 4-8 to 10-2, they had something going for them. It just took competent coaching for them to realize their potential.
-
Central Coast UteParticipant
🙄
Whatever. They didn’t play well. How’s that? And they didn’t come anywhere near sniffing the PAC title.
