NO INSIDE INFO HERE, just a gut feeling I think we see both Cam and Kuithe play tomorrow night in Corvallis.

If they do I think Utes win!

Cam – 10% chance, Kuithe – 0% chance imo. Love the optimism though

I watched a few breakdown videos that have said Cal is the target for Kuithe. So I wouldn’t count on it.

That being said I am probably wrong. Personal opinion for Cam among most of my Ute buddies is if not tomorrow then he is probably not coming back at all.

“if not tomorrow then he is probably not coming back at all”

Now wouldn’t that be a wild disaster. I haven’t really heard anyone express that idea before. You mean like people on the team said this?

I don’t like the implications either way. If it is the Cal game it seems far too convenient that it turned out that way. Which I think was a great disservice to NJ. It was a pretty cold move and Utah is probably very fortunate to have the wins that they have.
If it is tomorrow that he suits up..probably is what it is.

I am probably creating storylines in my head here. Seems like the offense had a good run under Ludwig. What we are seeing this season is classic Whitt.

I am in the camp as well that the most disappointing thing on the season has been the Oline. That could be the other thing we don’t see. In practice Rising probably cant defend himself well with this Oline and sporadic blocking of the TE/RB.

I’ve actually said a couple of times on this site that it’s quite possible we don’t see Cam at all this season (those would be the comments with a massive total of downvotes). I’ve also said that, given the severity of Kuithe’s injury, there’s a good chance that we’ll never see him again in a Utah uniform.

As everybody knows, knee injuries are tricky. Not every athlete responds to treatment and rehab the same way. For every jock you see come back from an ACL tear in six to eight months, there’s another that it takes 12-14 months.

That’s the reason why I’ve been saying that the moment that the coaching staff knew that Cam had an ACL tear, they should have been looking at the portal for an experienced QB. You hope it’s not the case, but what if Cam is one of those guys that it takes longer to recover from his injury? Are we then looking at Cam coming back for the 2024 season and, if so, what does that do to the dynamics of the QB room?

If he was to come back in 2024, that would be Cam’s sixth season at Utah and his seventh in college football. He’d also be well over 25 at the start of the football season.

Nah, don’t you know that it’s better to completely gamble your season on a guy returning from an ACL tear in 7-8 months?

Nah, after Bentley and Brewer, we were going with Nate, Brandon, and Bryson even if Cam didn’t come back (non-injury, going to NFL metaverse).

Yesterday I was told by a reliable source that Cam may not play at all. I kind of blew it off because I can’t believe he wouldn’t play if healthy.

Now Miami Ute and others are hearing the same rumbling. I hope he plays but not so optimistic anymore. If he is out does he get the NIL money?

If he’s not going to play, he needs to make the decision to give it up already. Can’t be half in and half out. Whitt needs to give him an ultimatum after this game. The people who were against a transfer QB might eat the biggest crow in Utah football history.

Jim, to make sure my comments aren’t misinterpreted, I have no insights or sources within the program. I also haven’t heard any rumors related to Rising’ return or lack thereof. What I do have is first-hand experience with ACL surgery and anecdotal knowledge of the recovery periods for this type of injury.

A simple Google search will confirm that the recovery period is different for just about every athlete and that the recovery period is really just an estimation. Like I said, there are guys that can be back on the field within 6-8 months, there are guys that it takes 12-18 months, and, sadly, there are guys that never get back on the field (this is a distinct minority but it happens).

Personally, I think that, as many have said, if Cam isn’t starting by the Cal game, you really have to start considering that he’s not playing at all this season.

It’s been confusing that the doctors have cleared him to fully practice for the last couple weeks. Then his surgeon has to clear him. Don’t they communicate? If a knee is fully healed then cleared for contact is a personal choice. Football is a violent sport nobody would play if they were worried about contact.

Rumor has been he’s not ready mentally to play. I don’t blame him. But it’s time to play or move on. Waiting game to game is not healthy for the team. They need to win tomorrow or it may not matter.

Thanks Miami for your insight on the acl injury time frame. I’m sure it varies and I don’t have enough knowledge for a solid opinion. But the reliable source I have said he doesn’t think he’ll play at all this year. If his knee is cleared for full use it must be healed? Am I off base? Therefore it has to be something else?
