I went all the way back to 1975 to find the last time Utah averaged less than the 19.2 ppg and 297.6 ypg from this year.

      – 1990 in McBride’s first year, they were 19.5 & 335.2 (4-7 record)
      – 1977 in Howard’s first year they were 19.3 & 337.7 (3-8)
      – 1975 under Tom Lovat they were 12.0 & 262.7. Remarkably Lovat was brought back in 1976 after consecutive 1-10 seasons. Lovat ended his 3 year run at 5-28.

I was there in the Tom Lovat-Howard era. That’s why I have a hard time with all the complaining. We are lucky to have such a great program. 1-5 win seasons were the norm back then. It’s not like we have a long tradition that’s for sure. 20 year run has been pretty sweet.
