      I really do believe our depth is much better than it was in the MwC, but we just can’t sustain an offense for a complete season.

      24, 20, 34, 31, 28, 36, 19, 52, 24, 49, 28, 22.

      First 1/3 of the season, we averaged 26 points.
      Second 1/3 we averaged 31.67.
      Last 1/3 of the season we averaged 33.

      Whoa didn’t see that, but again the 28 and 22 in losses cannot offset the 49 we scored in a win.

      Two of our biggest scores were in our last 5 games and in the Pac12, 52 against UCLA and 49 to ASU. Argh, that makes it even more frustrating. OUr losses were by an average of 4 points!!!!! That’s one play per game. ONE fumble inside the 10 yard line, one freaking yard against Cal, and one freaking punt return with THREE blocks in the back.

      One thing I miss about Urban, he always seems to have the luck go his way. Razor thin difference between a win and loss with these UTES. Always so close, so very very close.

      Yep, been saying since the start of the season there is no margin for error with this team. Ball bounces the wrong way, some bad calls or no calls and they will lose those WTF games.

      I was just watching the lowlight video clips. That Joe Williams fumble was the stake through the heart. I thought about recording this game. I would have never watched it again.

      The goal for the offense should be to score at least 30 each game. This is an achievable goal and one that Dennis Erickson set when he got here. It’s clear we aren’t living up to where we need to be on the offense.

      Conversely on Defense we need to step up the development to do better on down field protection. We clearly don’t have the DBs that will fill the bill in this league. It was astounding to see how much better the CU defense was a downfield coverage. Now that may be we don’t have receivers that can get open, or offensive scheme, but we clearly need to have better back end support for the defense.

        If you just go with the goal of 30 points a game, we did that 5 times this year. We won all 5. The other three wins we scored 24, 20 and 19. I’ll let the 19 in Corvallis slide, those conditions were bad, not 19 points bad, but like low-mid 20s bad.

        In our four losses we gave up 27, 28, 30, and 31, so that nudge to 30 would be the difference between winning the south, and third place, razor thin margin of error.

      Averages mean nothing without standard deviations, the averages are actually: first third 27.25 with a standard deviation of 5.54, second third 33.75 with a standard deviation of 12.13, last third 30.75 with a standard deviation of 10.75. To me, in terms of statistical analysis, there is no statistically significant difference in the scoring average from each third to the other. We might have improved our scoring from the first third to the second third by 6.5 points, but that’s mostly the result of one good game and we more than doubled our standard deviation which removes any significance.
