At anytime during yesterday’s game did anyone see Vaki come up lame or limping at all.
I don’t recall it but a local media hack is claiming that he did.
He looked very good and fully healthy on that 70+ yard TD run late in the game. M
I wonder if he is confusing Vaki with JJ, because I did see JJ limping off the field in the first half (although he did come back and played the rest of the game).
Just curious if I missed something.

I saw JJ limp off the field once but he came back in later. I didn’t see Vaki but the way things are going with player injuries, I wouldn’t be a bit surprised.

How on earth did Vaki look that much better at RB than Glover? I’ve been a believer in Glover’s potential, but yesterday’s performance by Vaki has me doubting him.
Was it just better offensive line play? Did Vaki even ever play running back in high school? I know he played receiver some.
I’m also trying to recall if there were ever any plays called where they had Vaki line up in the back field but didn’t give it to him. Seems like it’s one of those things that might only work for one game since now teams will know he’s definitely getting the ball if he comes in.

My understanding from listening to Bill Riley interview Vaki after the game is that Sione played both RB and slot receiver in HS.

Glover almost aways goes down on 1st contact. I have no idea why. His high school highlights showed a completely different runner. I guess more than anything it shows how much difference there is between those 2 levels.
Vaki did play some RB in high school, I think he was recruited as an athlete rather than a position.-

interesting that a self-submitted set of highlights may not be the best indicator of performance at the next level.

His HS highlights were amazing!! I’ve never been so excited about a recruit. Im shocked at how not great he is at this level.

I had hopes he’d be almost as good as Ty Jordan.

When Jordan Wilmore was being recruited, I looked on 247 and they had a tape of all of his carries in one game. He broke a couple where he was untouched, but on every other carry he went down on first contact, even if it was a DB. So I was skeptical when the buzz about Wilmore was that he was going to be the next great back.
Glover’s tape made me feel the same as Wilmore. When I look at the highlight reels, I look for the mistakes. If they make them on what they are telling me are their best plays, they will do so when faced with better competition. And it’s not just the recruits mistakes. Half of the big plays you see on these tapes come because the other team screwed up. Outrunning HS linebackers and safeties is standard fare for a D1 RB recruit. Doing so against LB’s who can run a 4.5 and aren’t constantly out of position is another story completely.

Where are all the freshmen RBs? Randle got his first two carries of the season at the end of the game on Saturday. Still no sighting of Stanley or Mitchell. Are these guys such busts that we have to use one of our starting safeties to supplant them at RB?

A huge thing for Whitt is pass blocking and that’s where the three true freshman need to work the most (according to Whitt). It is way too early to say all three of those guys are busts and honestly they are probably too young and inexperienced. Vaki is just an absolute annimal and him getting some carries is no fault to the true freshman RBs IMO.

It’s a good question. Perhaps Vaki is just better than the 3.
Bigger issue for me is that Utah took 3 in the same class. If they can’t get on the field when there are only two other healthy backs in the room, how many of them stick around for spring ball?
-
The Miami UteParticipant
Disappointing to see the Freshmen RBs not even contributing a little bit when the room is so decimated by injuries. Maybe next year we’ll see something out of them but I’m not really holding my breath. I’ve always found RB to be a position in both college and the pros where players show their credentials early or not at all.

The Jaylen Dixon strategy. We had a long stretch where he never stepped on the field unless the play was going to him. Was maddening.
