I won’t dive into numbers, but Cam Rising & his family highly value the loyalty and legacy aspect of this. A SEC school offered more, too. He already has it made for life in Utah. There was no reason to mess that up as a one year rental somewhere.#UteNation #GoUtes https://t.co/AiiGCBX2dI

Rising is a good dude. Glad he’s a Ute!

Top 5 favorite Ute of mine in program history. Love Cam’s work ethic, dedication to teammates, humbleness, etc. He has been an incredible face of the program – very thankful for him coming here and sticking through the adversity.

Rising is obviously as intelligent as he is talented in the football field. That quote about him being set for life as a Ute couldn’t be more true. Now imagine if he’s somehow able to lead the reloaded Utes to the Promised Land next year? He won’t be able to buy a drink or a meal in the valley for the rest of his life.

Unless he went to Eagle’s, he’d charge double and spit in his food after throwing the drink on his face

It will be interesting to see Cam in the spring. One mystery remains, has Cam become game ready? It is very possible this may have occurred after the Oregon loss and he and the coaches felt 2024 was of more value than the remainder of 2023. Either way I expect him to get lots of work in the spring without hits.

How can anyone know what amount of NIL money has been offered to Cam for next season? This seems like pure speculation at this point. Am I missing something here?

after the recent decision by the Utah legislature (?, i forget the entity that the DNews went to) that public schools had to publish NIL contracts, even though the contracts are not with the schools, those figures are now public record.
The speculation is double but the base is known. I assume the speculation comes from something Rising’s camp said

Given how quick these figures came out after he announced on a weekend makes them seem like pure speculation with nothing backing them.

College football needs to consolidate and get a salary cap and free-agency rules figured out. This is getting out of hand quickly.

wouldn’t work. how can you legislate what a kid can make off his own NIL? That genie is never going back in the bottle.
The only way I could see even slowing it down would be to go backwards on the transfer rules which I wouldn’t support unless they put the coaches under the same rules. If a coach can actively seek employment elsewhere while still under contract, why should a player – in football and men’s basketball only – be held to a different standard?
Edit: thought some more about it and I suppose that if they decided to make athletes employees instead of students, more control could be available. Otherwise, in my opinion only, student athletes should have the same freedom to change schools as any other student. If Stanford finds out that a Utah Biology student is doing some great work in the lab and wants to offer a better deal for them to change schools, none of us would hold it against them. It shouldn’t be any different just because a football player is someone we are interested in watching on Saturday’s.
