I found this gem on BYU’s si.com site. The article goes into detail how they can win every game this season. This is from the section on how they can beat Utah:
Utah was devastated by injuries last season will need to show that they have fully recovered. Gerry Bohanon’s addition to BYU was largely met with skepticism as his time between starts will be 686 days. Cam Rising will have gone 606 days between starts. He will have to get up to speed quickly behind an offensive line that ranked 131st nationally in pass blocking according to PFF last season. Rising is a limited passer who has completed 47% of his career passes 10 yards beyond the line of scrimmage and now is expected to have limited mobility after devastating knee injury that sidelined him for all of 2023.
On defense, Utah is will need to replace stars Jonah Elliss, Levani Damuni, Sione Vaki, and Cole Bishop and they will attempt to do so with varying levels of experience and injury history. There is no shortage of talent on this Utah defense, but it is not as experienced as in years past.
It sounds like Rising is a cripple. I don’t see how we can win that game. 🙂

It’s like political reporting…

Good analogy.

It’s clear this guy didn’t watch Utah last year, or like Tony said, it’s purely political reporting and not based in fact. Most of the pass blocking issues last were were Barnes’ fault. And if they weren’t, it was partly his fault.
To be fair, I do remember Fano giving up a few but he was a true freshman and will be better this year.-

They did win the pac 12 in 2021. They have national brand that everyone follows (LDS members). Everyone should get the BYU college experience. Oh and crud everyone likes us. Who else gives free ice cream to visiting fans. We are better than Utah ask Bosco and the 84 team. How can we compete with that?

What… are you trying to say?

There is some truth in that Cam has not started in a very long time. He is also likely still trying to overcome some of the mental (and physical) challenges associated with the recovery to some degree.
Hopefully he is able to shake off that rust early.

I’m not worried about Cam. He’ll have 3 games to get the feel back. In fact, I think Cam is going to be better than ever.

This seems like an AI written article. Can’t you test it?

Ya, it’s crazy that SI has devolved into the worst source of news. It’s been a long time since anything with an SI url has provided anything useful or insightful. I don’t even click them anymore.
I think Rising’s knock has always been his long ball accuracy, but I also think the lack of deep threat receivers has played into that as well. Now that he’s presumably looking to run less, and we have some receivers that can turn some scramble plays into throws over the top, I’m hopeful we’ll see a lot more long yardage out of broken plays (on top of designed long plays).

AI trained on articles originating in Utah County and the Church Office Building, yeah.

maybe spend less time on the parochial school fansites trying to find things to make you upset? I’m pretty sure that there isn’t a market on that site for articles that are designed to make you feel good about Utah.
If the premise is “What would it take for the parochial school to win every game this season”, there is nothing wrong with what you quoted.

How does this analysis even make sense? That game is the 9th of the season. I’m pretty sure by that point the amount of time that Rising has sat out will be a complete non-factor. The defensive starters that need to be replaced will have things sorted out by then as well. If the game were taking place at the start of the season, then maybe some of that makes sense, in November? Not so much.

Can we just have a good laugh at the “Rising is a limited passer” comment. This limited passer was 6th and 9th in the country in Total QBR the last 2 seasons he played. If that’s limited, give me limited!

Good point!!!

I just read the article myself, and it is pretty clear that the author thinks BYU is gonna lose that game. The author is simply just grasping at straws on how BYU might win that game because the whole point of the article is charting how byu can win every game on their schedule, but he doesn’t actually think they’re gonna win. There’s literally two other paragraphs that talk about how great of a team Utah is, and you just copied and pasted the worst part of it because you thought it would be great material on Ute Hub. It wasn’t meant to be a legit analysis of the Utah football team, the author’s job was to find any slight perceived hole he could find on the Utah football team that could give BYU any ounce of chance of winning the game.
