  Do you guys REALLY think that somehow Vegas odds makers have direct insight into the health of every key player on every team for the purpose of setting betting odds on games??

    It’s not the vegas oddsmakers, it’s the bettors. Vegas just reacts to the bets.

  I find it funny that people comment on the Vegas lines and don’t even know what they mean. Utah -2.5 or Utah -1.5 means they are favored to win by that many points. Sports books do not move the line based on insider Intel. They moved the line based on where the moneylands. They want it 50-50 so that they can collect the juice 10%. If the line jumped from Utah -2.5 down to -1.5 that means new money bet On Utah and they want to push more bets in favor of Oklahoma State.

    This isn’t a comment on Cam, but sports books absolutely also move the lines due to intel. If bettors found out Cam wasn’t playing and Vegas left the line at Utah -2.5, people would take out mortgages and (rightfully so) bet on OSU +2.5, which would then very likely lead to Vegas losing a lot of money on this game. Sure, they could adjust it after the news is public and the money has come in, but they’re gonna be on the hook for the influx of massive bets when the line was bad (Utah isn’t projectionally 2.5 points better than OSU in Stillwater without Rising). Books are very good at staying ahead of the game and adjusting lines based on inside info to prevent bettors from catching them in a bad line and dumping money on it.

      If you actually believe these guys in a billion dollar business (that has no shortage of slimy individuals) doesn’t take inside intel from people and use it on the lines, well I have some beautiful ocean front property in Cleveland to sell you.

      Whatever. Yes, I’m sure they do to some extent take into account insider Intel and injuries and such. But the majority of the line moves are due to where the money lands. I’ve just seen many people here think that a negative line for Utah means Oklahoma state is favored. That’s not what it means.
      
      Also, If cam shows up throwing with a glove, you will know I know what I’m talking about.
