This will be the first real test for Utah football. I am looking forward to this game to see if the 2024 Utes are as advertised.
The D line will have to pressure the Cowboy QB, and stop the run. Hope the LB crew and the backs and safeties start showing why they are so highly touted. I think Tao Johnson is another NFL bound player like Weddle and M Williams. Vaughn is solid and the other corners are showing they can play.
I want to see Whitt find a punt return guy that can make the first guy miss and take it all the way, or at least make a good return that puts the Utes in good field position. They have used Glover, Parks, and I think I have seen Stanley and Pittman (not sure). But so far it seems like the first guy down to cover makes the tackle. Covey was probably not as fast as some of these guys, but he could change direction on a dime, and had good enough speed and instincts to take it to the house.
Saying all this, I think the game will come down to who makes the most field goals. A field goal counts for half a touchdown, and can be scored from 50 plus yards out. Rising should be able to move the Utes into the Red zone, and they should come away with a touchdown or a field goal at the least.
