Also, the bald guy- how is he? How active is he in game plan, play schemes, etc. Asking for a friend-

Hahaha…Well the first thing I’ll say is this is Whitt’s Utah. I watched Cam throw three 45 yard pat n go’s in warm ups in Stillwater and told you all he was playing only to be proven wrong 25 min later! Granted many of his throws past 15 yards didn’t have the normal “carry” which is what I’m sure Lud noticed but still I thought he would play. This week I think it will probably be Issac but let em prove me wrong again.

Even if they’re practicing we just never know! Reid has made faster progress than I thought would but still think he’s a gametime decision – I won’t be surprised either way with him. No clue on when Connor will be out there again.

Team is in a very good headspace. Got out of Oklahoma pretty healthy so feeling good about what we’ll see on Sat night. Lots to play for and a big win at OSU kind of propels them forward!

What doesn’t make sense to me is if Cam was a game time decision last week, why is it expected he won’t be ready this week? If he was truly close last week he should be even closer/ready this week.

According to Whitt, Cam was a “coin flip” to play against Florida last year. We all know how that turned out. I think it’s safe to say that we shouldn’t put a ton of stock into what he says regarding injuries. In fact, I’m of the opinion that if Whitt is saying Cam is close to returning, we should expect him to be out for a while.

I’m just going to assume Wilson is the guy until Cam takes another snap.

A few things…Cam’s knee was a hell of a lot more serious than his middle two fingers overall but they’re pretty important when throwing a football accurately.

Furthermore, if you’ve ever injured a tendon in your hand or fingers you know that part of the recovery is to completely mobilize and reduce tension until it completely heals/strengthens. Often times 8-12 weeks after surgery before you start anything except passive range of motion stuff…this is clearly not a major soft tissue injury because he participated fully in warm ups at OSU for all to see.

It’s a pain tolerance, touch/feel, or range of motion issue in the joint for Cam imo. It might even be that the “clap” to call for the ball to be snapped is uncomfortable and in a loud stadium they were concerned it wouldn’t be heard.

You would think that he has progressed this week on all fronts but maybe something has lingered longer than expected in those middle joints (like a small bone injury).

He’s back fully at ASU worst case but I still wouldn’t be surprised if he runs out on Sat. (still have a feeling we’ll see Issac as of rn but no damn guarantees cause Whitt).

The boosters, Kuithe, Dorian Singer and others didn’t pay money/come back for another year/transfer here for him to sit if he can truly play. So @asu makes most sense. Then it’s 7 more regular season games, CCG and then Playoffs (PLAYOFFS!? Jim Mora)

Honestly I think Singer will get more passes thrown to him with Wilson in there than Cam.

This is exactly what I was thinking during the game last week. Cam uses the TEs as a crutch, a very good crutch, but not diverse enough with WRs. The other interesting thing I noticed and it may not be true but it seems that Money Parks has the most targets of receivers and TEs this year. I don’t where to find that info, but that is what it seems.

Cam is elite at audible to a good protection and audible to the TE to get the ball out fast. His counter to a blitz is a quick pass to the TE.

I can’t find the stats on targets, but Singer has 17 receptions while Parks has 11. With that big of a discrepancy, I would guess Singer also has more targets.

I would guess it is not al all that simple. Each week changes as Singer gets deeper into the offense. Opponents, defense game plan, score, time on clock, there are so many factors that feed into the next few play calls for me to isolate the factor of the two QBs. Above all I think in the short term the coaches take most what the defense gives.

Maybe. But what others have said is true. Cam does tend to lock in on Kuithe, and Isaac is more willing to throw the ball down field. Even with my untrained eye, I’m able to see it throughout the weeks.

I agree Central, Isaac uses WR more than Cam.

Let me say I have Cam as my Utah QB GOAT and posted this here with mixed response. This is because he wins conference championships, 2 for 2 when he plays a full season.

IMO he is a great leader and a great competitor. He is not a great thrower of the ball. He doesn’t have arm talent, at least not since the shoulder injury. He does seem to prefer specific targets, typically TE, and even stares them down at times. He runs at risk. But he is a gamer and makes big plays in big situations.

I’ll always love Cam and it will be hard to replace his moxie, but there are certainly better downfield throwers out there and once the game slows down for Isaac, he’ll be one of those.

Agreed. I don’t have Cam as my GOAT, and i’m not saying Wilson should play over him, but Singer will get more targets with Wilson for the reasons you mentioned.
Cam does give the Utes the best shot to win this year.

          I think there’s a few factors

          1. We have a bye week after Arizona. So the upside was more if we could get him last week – two games with Cam if he was ready last week. This week means getting him for one game, whereas sitting him gives him two weeks to heal up.

          2. Isaac Wilson has shown the ability to win a game against quality opponents, making us less likely to push for a less-than-completely-healthy Cam to play

Bottom line, both of those contribute to a higher bar for “healthy/healed enough”

I’m concerned that our two toughest games would be started by Isaac and especially in this game considering Arizona has bye week prior to it. I still want to see Cam this weekend if he can go.

I have zero credibility or insider knowledge. I think Rising will warm up but Wilson will start. If it gets bad Rising will come in.

Yerg and Central Coast We’ve seen 2 not even full halves of Cam. How can you come to conclusions about throwing to Singer. Cam would throw more to the receivers than Wilson because they would pass more. Cam didn’t have the receivers two years ago he has now. He knows if he wants a shot at the NFl he needs to show he can throw downfield.

Offense would be much different with Cam. Wilson has done a great job filling in but he is no Cam at this point. We need to get Cam healthy and some game reps going forward. It will be a noticeable difference when he comes back.

You may be right, and I’m not throwing shade at Cam because what he does works for him. I’ve seen him this year lock onto Kuithe despite receivers being open down field. Also, just the number of throws to TE’s over receivers over the course of those two games tells me that. I might be wrong and if Cam ever plays again, maybe he’ll come out throwing to receivers. We’ll see.
