Lol ..offense is atrocious, especially inside the 20.. it’s a common theme every year. Coaching is complacent has been for awhile, no accountability for it either. Cam smirking on the sideline as he collects a check when the team needs him the most just adds to the frustration. I see no difference from the product on the field this year compared to last, maybe a slight decrease. We definitely don’t belong in the top 10 , more of a pretender than a contender at this point .
All that said, last night’s performance, I believe was more of hangover fatigue from the OKST game. We came out flat and lacked the energy needed. Added to the fact Arizona is a bad match up for us.
We’ll see a different team in two weeks, but will it be enough to contend for the conference championship , I guess we’ll see what type of resolve this team has.

Unless Rising gets back on the field, this could be a historically bad season for Utah given the expectations before the season started. I’m just of the mind that you can’t win consistently with a true freshman QB playing extended minutes.

I agree. We have seen so many great QBs that did not see time as a freshman. I think they lack a wide enough range of plays that make them too predictable. It takes time to know the number of plays that allow each week’s plan to be different enough. There is a limit to the number of plays that can be mastered per week so we see too many plays repeated. After a year or two a QB can have down enough different plays to allow us to better take advantage of each different team. It is even more profound in game when adjustments are needed to respond to what begins to work for the other defense. I think it only takes two games to see the book for a true freshman. This problem explodes when there is a good team that has two weeks to prepare for the short book freshman.
Wilson came from a HS with an advanced offense, but still a distance short of what is needed in a power conference. I think when the QB progression got broken when Johnson did not work out, Utah has had difficulty mending a workable QB2. Don’t know why Rose did not develop. Surprised Huard has not worked himself into the picture better. Those shortcomings have pressed our true freshman into service.
I don’t know why during difficulty we could not try another option for a set to shake things up. Even Rising coming in for spot duty handing off causes the defense to adjust and think taking focus off Wilson. Wilson will be a great option next year or down the road. For now only Rising has the experience to win games. Hopefully late in the year Wilson may add to his book enough to do spot work. It will be difficult to advance QB3 and QB4 much. Anyone know who is running the scout team offense?

Huard is running the scout team.

Didn’t Whitt call him the nation’s best scout team QB? Somebody did…

I think Whitt locks on “his guys” and they have a WAY longer leash than justified.
Cam is his guy. Barnes was his guy. Wilson is his guy.
Rose and Huard will never see time unless forced into action by injuries and even then, it would go to Botarri.
