      Pete Rose, one of the all time greatest hitters in the game died today at 83.

      He should be in the Hall of Fame…hope it happens now.

      Don’t like this clickbait title when we’ve had players in the program die and we have a player named Rose. Genuinely had me concerned. RIP to Pete Rose, but it’s totally different for an 83 y/o to die than a player

      That’ll never happen. The guy was betting on baseball games while he was the manager of the Reds. What would you think of Whitt if he was betting on college football games while coaching the Utes?

            Yes. What’s wrong with having so much confidence your team is going to win, that you are willing to put money on it? Betting on your own team to win is totally different from betting against your team.

              I guess things like insider trading don’t bother you either? Rose had access to a much wider range of data than your normal bettor. He had an entire scouting department at his fingertips and could make bets based on that information. Doesn’t seem very fair to me.

                Betting on your team to win is not even close to insider trading. He, and his team, still have to go out and perform.

          Rose altered pitching rotations and substitutions in favor of games he bet on, and then left his team “short-handed” for games he had no bets on. That is compromising the game, full stop. But I loved that guy as player, he should 100% be in the Hall of Fame, especially considering his bust would rest among the busts of some real human garbage.

            How is that any different than when a manager changes their rotation to win a game he thinks he can’t win otherwise?

              How is it different? It’s different because he’s making adjustments and changes for personal gain. It’s not a hard concept to grasp.
