Utah is worse than Vanderbilt, UNLV, Syracuse, SMU, Kentucky, Rutgers, Nebraska, West Virginia, Indiana, Boise State, and probably BYU, all in one season.
Forgot to mention Army and Navy.

It’s one game. I was as disappointed as anyone but JFC, guys. We went from 4-0 and #10 in the nation to suddenly being pedestrian and our program is Indiana? It’s the perfect time for the team to have a bye week. Get rested. Get healthier. Ludwig drives me nuts like the rest of us but I have to imagine many adjustments and rippings from Whitt happened. As well to the defense. When did this fanbase turn into instant CougarBoard-like cynics and giving up hope 5 games in? Have some trust in our coaches and players that built this program to where it’s at.

You know, I hope I’m wrong about this, but as I was driving home from last Saturday night’s game, the feeling that I had was that Utah got found out. Once again we were in the Top 10 and once again we were playing in front of a national TV audience and once again we crapped the bed. This is just me, and I could obviously be completely wrong, but I just have a feeling that unless Rising gets his physical issues straightened out ASAP, this could be a long season for the Utes. Why? Well, in every single game that Rising is out, the opponent is going to have the better QB, which means that they’ll have a better offense. In addition, and this might be recency bias from Utah’s inability to control Arizona, but maybe Utah’s defense, with all of the injuries to key players and games missed, isn’t the juggernaut that we all thought it would be before the season started. Whatever the case, I’ll still support the team and go to every remaining game at RES. However, until Rising is out there playing, and playing well, I’ll just temper my expectations.

Please tell me where I’m wrong. Vanderbilt is going stride for stride with the number 1 team in the country. UNLV and Syracuse both have better offenses than Utah. West Virginia is demolishing the same team we barely beat. Indiana is 6-0 and they just beat northwestern 41-24. Rutgers and Nebraska are both solid teams. Boise state has a great offense led by arguably the best overall player in all of CFB. They also should have beaten Oregon in Autzen. BYU has a better offenses than us and probably and equal defense. I would not take Utah to beat any of those teams in a neutral field with IW as our QB.
-
The Miami UteParticipant
Well, as I said, given Utah’s current circumstances, you’re not wrong. It just takes turning on the TV and watching more than one team.

Go Utes!

Talk about a massive over reaction
-
The Miami UteParticipant
Where’s the overreaction? You think Utah, given its current circumstances, would be up 23-14 on Bama at halftime like Vanderbilt is? Every one of those teams that he mentioned has been killing it or, at least, looking better than Utah without Rising.
-
AnferneeParticipant
I’m withholding a very strong opinion either way about the trajectory of the season until after ASU Friday. It will be very telling.
-
The Miami UteParticipant
I can’t begin to explain to you how worried I am about that game. Dillingham has something cooking down in Tempe. It kind of reminds me of the feeling I had last season before we went down to Tucson to play Zona. Hopefully, Cam is back for that game and stays healthy for the rest of the season.

Friday night road teams hardly fare well…
-
The Miami UteParticipant
Also, Utah destroyed ASU last season 55-3 at RES and have beaten the Sun Devils quite handily the last four times they’ve played them. So, I think ASU is going to be extremely motivated to play Utah, and, historically, visits to Tempe don’t normally fare well for the Utes. Utah is 5-15 all-time in Tempe. Make of that what you will.

It’s not really an overreaction, thus far into the season all those teams have looked way more impressive than Utah. So are those teams better than Utah? Right now yes. Will they be at the end of the season? Ask me again in 8 weeks.
-
AnferneeParticipant
I’ve been accused of being a naive optimistic at times. I just feel like this off week really gets things right and we turn a corner. In many facets.

I think many of us need to quit over reacting to this AZ loss. I for one never thought Utah would run the table undefeated especially with a true freshman QB at the helm. Utah will be ready for ASU and after Utah wins we can all over react the other way. Btw…tired of hearing all the negativity about Cam. He has stuck with the Ute program for the past 7 years and has been loyal while giving us 2 Rose Bowls. Maybe we should show him a little loyalty.
-
The Miami UteParticipant
Well, Cam has been loyal because he’s been getting paid quite handsomely. If he wasn’t, he would have jetted to Florida after the first Rose Bowl. It’s a two way street you know…
-
-
RoboUteParticipant
honestly even though we aren’t good we might go undefeated if that was our schedule.
