Sorry, but this defense is pathetic. No wrapping up, Lander has regressed, the LB’s and DL are absolutely awful in QB contain and have been going back to 2022. I understand there are some injuries, but they play undisciplined and are lacking basic fundamentals. If Scalley can’t even coach the fundamentals, he has no business being HC, especially with zero HC experience. I say that instead of falling into the sunk cost fallacy, we cut our losses and tell Scalley that he simply isn’t the guy going forward. If he cares about the program and potentially their only chance to get into the P2, he would understand and wouldn’t take it personally. I say we hire Jay Hill while we still can. Double whammy since it would hurt BYU.

Realized after the Baylor game that the D had issues, and was verified after the Arizona game. Defense is definitely not as good as advertised, and not strong enough to get them into the B12 championship game for certain. Actually, issues all over the place. 8-4 season at best.

We are playing with 3rd 4th and 5th string guys. Get real.
Not to mention that we are 0-3 in the red zone.

who is responsible for those things? Because all I heard all off season was that this was the most talented and deepest team ever on the hill and that there would be no drop off once the starters left the field

There are no 4th and 5th string’s playing. Also, the STARTERS are lacking fundamentals and discipline. Explain that.
-
highlandute7Participant
We are down Reid and Fotu at LB. You tell me what comes after that. Is that not 3rd string? I’ve also seen reynolds out there at LB. Is he 3rd or 4th string?
And are we really going to believe that 2nd 3rd 4th string are as good as a starter? Please. Of course not. Common sense. I don’t care what the coach says. ?

22Ute22Participant
The LB corp goes something like this in a 4-2-5 formation
Barton and Reid
Hall and Fotu
Reynolds and Calvert
There is no 4th and 5th string unless you count walk-ons. Maybe if you take into account Damuni being injured, but we have been missing him since spring ball, so that’s drastically different than him getting injured midseason. Fact is, the LB Corp should be better regardless. The only player who has an excuse to be bad is Reynolds due to his youth and inexperience.
-
highlandute7Participant
Hall – who is a converted LB, Fotu, Reynolds’s and Calvert are not starters. Fotu is the backup to Reid. Anyone behind that is at best 3rd string. Barton, who is playing terrible is the only starter who played last night.

Whoever we appoint, I’m incredibly certain that Whittingham no longer deserves the privilege of retiring unless he does it after this game.

CrowParticipant
He is a good coach but not head coach

Based on what, his success at Weber where he was near the top of the toughest FCS conference every year?
