I wonder if there is some correlation between preseason expectations and fan happiness. I used be happy just watching football and while losses always bummed me out I was fine by sunday morning, but this year I just let a loss hurt way more than it should have for two weeks just to watch another crappy game of football. Part of me wants to just go back to the 8-4 expectations so I can just enjoy the season. Or maybe I’ll get lucky enough that college football will ruin itself so I lose enough interest to care.

The correlation is that Whitt closed down practices. We’d know how good/bad the team is when we could see them in the fall. Now? We know nothing about the team until game 1. We try to make assumptions based on past knowledge (like Cam Rising, after 18 F**KING months is healthy and is smart enough not to f**k himself and the team over) but we don’t know. And when the assumptions are wrong, and expectations were high, you get disappointed.

Whitt closing practices takes away all accountability and when accountability is removed, you get lazy. When you get lazy in football, you get your ass beat.

And Whitt is getting his ass beat.

There is absolutely a correlation between expectations and performance when it comes to enjoyment. Only thing I can suggest is to let it be your expectations and don’t let an echo chamber convince you that you are wrong. Posting “16-0 baby, we win it all” may get you upvotes but it won’t feel good if you actually start believing it.
