There is a contingent of fans who seem to feel vindicated by a Utah loss, and deriving more pleasure from saying “I told you so” when it happens, than from celebrating when the team wins.
This is not to say the coaches and players should be immune from criticism, but that’s different. -

i think most people know that these types of people suck. they are called narcissists.
i just really hope they get the attention they seek. -

If you couldn’t see that tonight’s game was a distinct possibility based on what had happened since Rising played coy with the “will I, won’t I go pro” before the Penn State game and his subsequent injury.,, sure blame us I told you so fans. You’ll feel better but it won’t change the reality

What is anyone blaming you for? And who said any of these comments make us feel better about the loss? Maybe it’s you who feels better about the loss by saying “I told you so”?

I root for the name on the front of the jersey. I don’t give a rat’s ass who gets the job done as long as it gets done.
The idolatry of individual players is the problem. Would 2021 vintage Cam Rising have won tonight’s game? Very likely. But if you expected that to come to fruition, then you were allowing your want to override objective reality and deserve an I told you so. The fact that it hurts coming from someone you’ve never met and would never take advice from (so why would you worry about criticism from the same source) is a you problem that I can’t help with.

Did I say I root for players over the team? No. Actually the opposite. You can read anything I wrote during the game or after about how they made a huge mistake to stick w/ him for as long as they did.
Did I say I expected 2021 vintage Cam Rising to play in this game? No. I said I hoped he would play but that I was planning on Wilson. I did think that if Rising played, he would be far more himself than he was tonight (I didn’t think it was possible for the coaches to allow him to play like that).
Did I say I am hurt by your “I told you so.” Haha, absolutely not. Let’s be clear, you were never speaking to me when you said “I told you so”…there’s nothing you said to me before the game that is now worthy of an “I told you so”. And even if there was, I wouldn’t care b/c A) I don’t mind admitting if I was wrong, B) like you said…I don’t know you, C) we’re talking about a football game that is entertainment at the end of the day, and D) my preference is generally to be more optimistic w/ the Utes…and I recognize this will inevitably result in “I told you so’s”. I’m not sure why you think I am hurt by what you said.
I responded to your comment b/c A) I thought the way you said it was rude and B) it didn’t make sense to me. He wasn’t blaming you for anything. He was accusing fans that say “I told you so” of finding pride in a Utah loss. For what it’s worth, I didn’t say if I agreed w/ that or not. I did question your assumption that he felt better about the loss by making that accusation (I said “we” b/c I was inserting myself into the conversation). And I did imply that one way people (like you) could feel better about and cope w/ a loss is to be able to say “I told you so” to other fans who had higher expectations.
I’ve read a lot of your posts and I think you share a lot of educated thoughts that I often appreciate. I also find that you sometimes make assumptions and put words in peoples’ mouths.

okay, one of us has to go to bed first 🙂
I don’t ever call anyone out specifically, even though it may seem so based on which post I reply to. I see something I want to respond to and it’s the premise, not the person. And the first sentence from the OP was definitely something that struck a nerve. If you feel you caught some shrapnel or friendly fire, that wasn’t my intent.
At the same time, trying to make people who said that tonight’s outcome was probable feel bad about it makes about as much sense to me as saying that DeSantis got a thrill out of warning his state of an impending hurricane.

Haha I can’t sleep. No worries man. I have no criticism for people who weren’t confident in tonight and thought this might be the outcome. No issues w/ people having lower expectations. It helps me temper my optimism. I wasn’t loving (and still don’t love) the Cam hate or the calls to fire Whitt. But hey, everyone is entitled to their opinion. And people who were way down on our team after the AZ loss were right. I thought that was an overreaction, but we showed tonight that we have some structural problems w/ this 2024 team (which includes the coaches) and that the AZ loss wasn’t just a bad night. Hopefully they turn it around. I think they will get it figured out, but it might be too late by the time they do. We’re all on the same side…and we’re all disappointed and frustrated w/ where things are at today haha!

My original post wasn’t aimed at anyone specific, and I don’t mean to assign blame. I wanted to share an observation based on some online takes. It might even have some merit, but could have been expressed more thoughtfully. I realize that my frustration influenced my tone, and I apologize if I offended anyone.
@2008 I appreciate your insights (even when our views differ), and your play breakdowns are also very informative. FWIW if you refer to my post history, I wasn’t confident in a victory regardless of Cam’s presence. This team has many issues, so the outcome is not surprising. And as heartbreaking as it is for me to say, I’d be open to Whitt stepping down, as long as it’s done in a way that supports the program’s long-term success. At the very least, Ludwig needs to go.

Online usually means fake or some sort of rage bait engagement.
I think most people on Utehub have been fair and analytical.I did see some crazy expectations placed on Rising who really was never evaluated properly.

SalUteopiaParticipant
Quite possible, @Eagle. I shouldn’t put much stock into Twitter and Reddit takes, but it rubbed me the wrong way after a heartbreaking loss.
I agree that Utehub has been a great community, and I appreciate the diverse opinions. As @Holladay put it, we’re all on the same side.

You and I are good Sal, at least from my point of view, and always have been. The title of the thread gave me the opportunity to say something I’ve wanted to for a long time and I went after it with both barrels.
I’m a contrarian by nature and don’t have an ego when it comes to my opinions being challenged. You may not change my mind but I guarantee I take in what is said so that I can make sure I’m not missing something. And I have no problem being the first to admit when I get it wrong. It was not my intent to appear to attack you personally. I just really really really wanted to go after the premise (real or imagined) that by saying “I told you so” it meant that I wanted the team to lose so that I could be right. And in the moment, it didn’t matter who said it.
