There’s A LOT to be negative about after that game. Setting all of that aside and leaving it to other posts. What can we be positive about? Please share. Here are some of my thoughts:
      1) Even though it’s highly unlikely, there’s still a chance we could make it to the B12 title game. 2022 happened. And it feels like this conference has plenty of decent teams but no great teams. These teams will probably beat up on each other.
      2) Point #1 could make it more entertaining to watch the rest of the conference. We care about every game every other team plays.
      3) Our defense was missing a ton of important contributors that will hopefully return at some point. O’Toole, Reid, Tanuvasa, Fotu, and Vimahi. We’ll be a lot tougher w/ them on the field.
      4) Isaac Wilson looks like a promising QB. We can invest in him for the future. I’d love to see how he looks and grows when he gets a full share of QB1 reps and knows that he’s the guy.
      5) We have talent on our team, even if that talent has underperformed. I still think that talent is at least capable of beating every other team on our schedule. Injuries and coaching have played a big part in our failures the last two games.
      6) Whittingham is smart and tough. It’d be surprising if this kick in the pants didn’t result in improvements and progress throughout the rest of the year.
      7) We still have an opportunity to ruin BYU’s season.
      8) We still have stuff to play for. Mentioned a few of those things above. But at the very least, we have an opportunity to rebuild momentum and enthusiasm for next year.

1 – Utah can absolutely make the CCG with 2 losses. 3 feels like a stretch with so many teams but it’s too early to do the math.

3 – The defense did it’s job in the 1st half and 3rd quarter. The 4th was more a combination of having to play from behind and that great play by Leavitt on third and long to Skattebo. That one turned into a back breaker since he broke the next play for a TD, much like Arizona did in the previous game. 27 points allowed isn’t optimum but there is no reason the Utah offense shouldn’t be able to exceed that.

4 – Wilson has been mishandled this year. I hope that he can overcome it. From being forced into meaningful action before he was ready to then having to sit a full game when it was obvious that the starter wasn’t capable.,, 2024 should have been a learning experience as he prepares himself for the future. Instead, it’s almost a repeat of how his brother was handled with the Jets and that’s not good for anyone

5 – Agreed but something fundamental needs to change for that to happen. I’m not the guy paid to figure that out but someone needs to.

6 – That is the same comment we heard for the last two weeks, that Arizona was the kick in the pants the team needed. Every player who could get in front of a mic told us how they wanted to show that the Arizona loss was the wakeup call they needed. You can only say the same things so many times before it becomes Einstein’s theory of insanity.

8 – Building momentum for next year only matters to the fans. Every player wants to win and win now. Next year is so far in the future as to not even be relevant.
