Whitt has been the best thing that happened to Utah football and has had a great 20 year ride. Consequently, I would never push him out.

That being said, I think it is time for him to hang it up and turn it over to Scalley. Why? The team does not seem cohesive and lacks the energy we have seen in the past. I think the program needs a boost.

Will Scalley’s leadership give the team a boost? No one knows, of course. But, I think it will. He will make changes (hopefully positive). Most important, in my mind, is a change in offensive philosophy.

      Go Utes!!!

Not calling time out before the delay of game on a game winning/losing drive? I’ve never seen that from Whitt. Something is going on with their cam/Whitt debacle

I’m not saying he has the “right” CFB is a business now (Moreso than ever before) so no coach is safe if the college wants to be competitive or whatever it is CFB is trying to have these days.

…but I will say getting rid of him isn’t a great look and that it’s just a pointless move unless you have an actual 5-star coach wanting to come here…which we don’t.

He won’t be around for much longer and I suspect it’s going to be a long and painful awakening for people to realize how much talent and identity this team will lose and how little there will be to replace it.

So while I don’t think there is an inherent right to stay, I do think he’ll deserve a statue when he’s gone and we will miss what we had for most of the time he was here. It’s not greener on the other side of this fence.

He will never be fired, but behind the scenes, he could be asked to retire.

Yes, I believe this is true. However, I think we ara long way from there right now. If Whitt wants to coach next year – he will. But, at some point the administration may come to him and say that its time.

They tried to let Mac go with dignity but he didn’t want any part of it. It took a few years but Mac is seen as a Ute football icon.

            Mac overstayed.

            Lavell overstayed.

John Madden did not overstay. He was honest with himself. He gave coaching all he had and when he couldn’t sustain the focus and energy, he retired from coaching at age 42.

Icons do earn goodwill and near unconditional tenure. Whitt has earned his. However, I hope Whitt doesn’t overstay and there are some signs right now that it may be time.

All in or in the way.

He isn’t on the hot seat at all and he is probably retiring soon, but I wouldn’t give him an extension unless things improve. I also wouldn’t give Scalley the job at this point, but that has been decided.

The program is more important than Kyle Whittingham.

It’s this pervasive attitude that breeds under performance. The man knows he’s considered entirely untouchable. Who here is responsible for anyone’s productivity? If you are or have been, what happens to someone’s level of effort and the quality of their work when there’s no urgency and no threat of replacement. This isn’t a hard question and there’s only one answer.

Kalani knows the guillotine is the next room, look what a mediocre coach can produce with the CORRECT INCENTIVES. Kyle knows he has an army of people ready to lick his boots. Look at what a legend produces in that situation. No one who is a fan of any sports team should have the opinion that anyone in it is untouchable. That is an express lane to mediocrity, disappointment, and under performance at best. And let me tell you something. We got off that exit a few years ago.

I’m on your side on this one. I really am. I’m trying to nibble around the edges and take baby steps to maybe turn one acolyte at a time towards the TRUTH. Just hoping that I can create a trickle, then a creek, a stream and finally a river that will break the dam of “whatever he does is always right and the results or the methods are not allowed to be questioned”.

And then some so and so comes along with a howitzer and blows up the whole freaking dam and washes away all the villagers who have been praying to the altar of the dam because of it’s benevolence in parsing out joy and pain.

Maybe we are at the point where it all needs to be blown up. And maybe I’ve kinda wanted it for so long but never really thought it was possible that I’m not recognizing the truth in my statement from a couple of days ago. Whatever must happen eventually MUST happen immediately.

Whittingham isn’t close to the hot seat. He made back to back Rose Bowls fairly recently. With that said, no coach should ever get to pick their time to retire. if this season implodes and next season isn’t any better, I’m not saying he should be fired, but I wouldn’t give him an extension. He has earned an opportunity to fix the problems, but not unlimited time if things don’t turn around.
