The Miami UteParticipant
Is that Utah has essentially p**sed away two seasons waiting on Rising to come back from his injuries. Even without, the finger injury, even without getting his ankle/knee rolled up versus ASU, you could tell that Rising was far from his best after suffering that catastrophic injury in the Rose Bowl.
I said it last year after we all found out the extent of his injury, and I said it this year after Rising got injured again, Utah would have been best served by cutting ties with Rising immediately after the 2023 Rose Bowl.
Please don’t tell me, “but he’s a legend” or “he’s the greatest QB in Utah history”. I don’t care. Mature programs step away from players when they realize that they’re surplus to requirements. Hell, the only reason Charley Brewer (Baylor’s 2nd all-time ever passer) had his cup of coffee with Utah was because Dave Aranda told him “thank for the memories” as soon as he took over.
Personally, I think that Whitt gambled and lost. He got greedy, thinking he would steal march on the competition and gambled that Rising would be the same Cam Rising in 2023 and then 2024. When that didn’t happen, he was left with no real plan, because, let’s be serious, no legit P4 power has an actionable plan of starting an 18 year old true freshman.
Oh well, such is life. I guess we can look to Isaac’s development, take enjoyment in that, and look forward to next year.

Hopefully we can hang on to Isaac. Based on the comments from Nashville in another post, that sounds like it could be in doubt.

UtahParticipant
I posted in that thread, but Wilson is 100% Utah’s as long as the season goes well. If he’s the starter and playing and getting better, there is no reason for him to leave. If he’s the backup or getting 50% of the reps and not getting the chance to be the man, then I 100% see him leaving.
With the news from Whitt, I’m not worried about Wilson at all.

The Miami UteParticipant
Really? I know Oregon and USC will definitely be looking for QBs next season.
-
2008 National ChampParticipant
Oregon has Dante Moore holding a clipboard and prepping for next year (which is what Wilson should have doing this year in a functional program). Anyone going there is going to have a battle on their hands. Starting for a bad Utah still provides more exposure than sitting somewhere else.
-
The Miami UteParticipant
That’s political theater. Guaranteed that Oregon goes after the top available QB in the portal rather than trusting their fortunes to the unknown of Moore.
-
2008 National ChampParticipant
They already have. Plus they got a 4 star last year, and are in on another this year if he hasn’t already committed. Oregon is well stocked at QB which is why I don’t think that would be a good place for Wilson to go should he move on.
Oregon is a school that doesn’t get themselves a starter and then stop recruiting the position because it might hurt the starter’s feelings.

Everyone spending the big $$$$ to attend games has the freedom to act how they want, but it would help if we have a supportive crowd Saturday, cheering the players and team and not getting down on them if they are having a rough time.
Not going to help at all if we boo them off the field at halftime if we are down. Isaac needs to know we support him and that we understand he is learning the ropes and will make mistakes as he grows. And the injury riddled defense has to know we are behind them too.
Until I die!

The Miami UteParticipant
You know…I’m afraid that it might be a sparse crowd. It’s projected to be cold and the game probably won’t end until after midnight. Either way, it wouldn’t surprise me if people started departing after halftime.

appears IW is our starting this week and going forward unless something changes now (per the announcement). I’m ready to root for the team going forward with the understanding and expectations set around having a FRESHMAN QB who is developing and has potential. I don’t expect him to perform miracles. Just to show up and lead as well as he can and show growth game to game.
If we get that then I’ll be a happy fan. CAM gets my thanks for being a heck of a gamer for several years. But it’s clear he’s too hurt to play at 75% and he needs to think of his long term future. If he’s at 90% and needs to come in as a backup thats fine but I do not expect him to start unless A) he’s really more healed than last week B) Isaac is injured.
That’s all.

I don’t know Miami… It seemed like rainbows and unicorns in the first quarter of the Baylor game…
-
RustyShacklefordParticipant
WTF are you talking about? Rising looked pretty good against SUU and Baylor. Acting like he was a shell of himself before he got injured at Baylor to prove a ”told ya so” is disingenuous.
-
The Miami UteParticipant
WTF am I talking about? Cam had a good game versus a bad FCS outfit (wow, imagine that) and a mediocre half (8-14 for 92 yards) against probably the worst team in the Big XII (Baylor). That WTF I’m talking about. If Cam’s performance versus Baylor sold you as a fan that he was “back”, then I can’t help you.
-
2008 National ChampParticipant
Sometimes I wonder if we are all watching the same games. Because the conclusions that come out of them are so completely different. Someone the other day likened the Utah offense the first half of the Baylor game to a Ferrari. And all I could think of was that 13 of the 23 points were created by the defense.
-
The Miami UteParticipant
Exactly…the best thing about that game was the W.
-
-
RustyShacklefordParticipant
Two TDs, we didn’t score a point after he went out. Was he rusty sure but to act like was inept and not fit to be on the field is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Going from a healthy Cam to IW is a massive downgrade this season.
