  It matters especially because of the optics of it. We are down right now and the vibe around the program says that as well. If we can finish the other half of the season strong, it will go a long way in keeping recruits and guys from transferring. And it will be appealing to future recruiting and transfers. So yeah us losing a 4☆ LT 6 games into the season matters a lot.

    Yes success plays a part of it but he’s also crystal balled to USC. You can’t tell me USC’s having a better season than Utah. More talent, yes but not a better season 6 games in.

  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: the vibes just have to get better all around the program. Not only do we desperately need a W on Saturday, but we really need it to be high-flying with a lot of guys getting involved.

    It’s strange that one of Utah’s biggest strengths was coaching consistency, but they may be the problem now.
    
    Utah has become so predictable and routine, it’s more easily described as boring.
    
    Not enough use of talent or explosiveness, way too isolationist approach to media and fans with the shutting down of access, defense isn’t as dominant or abusive as they have been in the past….
    
    It’s just stale…. Needs some sauce or seasoning. Let’s poor some wine on this and get some flambé!!!

    You’d think the vibe currently, back-to-back losses and a instate blue chip de committing would signal to the coaches that changes are needed. Guys need to have fun again.. But I severely underestimate how stubborn hard-headed coaches can be. Even to the detriment of their program.

  In sports, as in life, it’s better to do something a year too early than a year too late. By that I mean is that if Whitt has any notion of retiring, it would be best for the program if it happened sooner rather than later.
  
  Obviously, he can stay as long as he wants and his current contract runs for three more seasons. However, what you most definitely do not want is three-four years of future mediocrity in the Truckstop Conference. That will damage the program and its brand severely. Remember, it’s a hell of a lot easier to tear down than to build.

  Of course it’s significant. Everytime recruiting doesn’t go Utah’s way someone always makes the silly point of “oh well recruiting isn’t important anyway.” It just sounds like cope to be honest. Losing out on the top rated instate player is bad.
