      This year feels more wide open than past years. Mighty powerhouse programs have loses early in the season that they didn’t have traditionally. Obviously Texas looks good, but teams seem more beatable than in the past. Is it possible that NIL is creating parity in college football? It seems that the powerhouse programs are now just paying players above board. Is it possible that players they would normally get are now choosing other programs based on NIL?

        NIL has brought both parody and parity to college football. But I would argue more parody than parity.

      When combined with the transfer rules, absolutely. Vandy beats Bama led by key senior transfers. TCU makes the national title game led by several impact transfers on defense. Players stay longer with NIL so there’s more senior talent across the country on teams, which makes a big difference for the teams who aren’t able to get impact freshman each year. Transfer rules make more good players who are backups at big programs transfer to smaller programs to find playing time. It all flattens out just a bit more.

        Appreciate your thoughts. I wasn’t even thinking about transfers, but you are right, the combination of it all seems to have had an impact on parity. Something in my DNA tells me I should hate the transfer rules and NIL, but should I if it is making it a situation where my team has a better shot at a title?

      I can’t help but wonder if we will only see more of this with NIL. NIL is a double edged sword. Hopefully once it has some regulation the parity we have seen this season is still there.
