Yeah the phantom time out and phantom hold f’d us. We had it won. But it never should have gotten to that point. We went into super conservative offense in the 2nd half because we had a lead. Textbook Whitt. Bit us in the ass in the end.

Respect to the Utah team, they played like studs tonight. Brandon Rose is a good QB and created an offensive spark. That was by far the best defense BYU has played this season. I wish it didn’t end the way it did. Utah all but won that game. But I guess you get lucky sometimes. Best of luck to you guys the rest of the season, I hope y’all become bowl eligible.

TednabParticipant
Thanks Ted, you guys deserved the win. Being bowl eligible at this point would just add to the suffering of this season and frankly I hope we lose out and clean house this off season

That’s really the key isn’t it? If somehow they win 2 of the next 3, no changes will be made. It’ll get blamed on injury luck, January through August we’ll be told how talented and deep the team is, and then have to sit through another groundhog year

Spot on Tony. The tortous and the hair analogy. Whitt need to retire. You cannot play not to loose. Bad coaching by whitt.

Bad analogy, I’m pretty sure the tortoise wins in that story

If Jonno doesn’t drop that int (woulda been a pick six) or we fall on one of those two fumbles in a row- we win. Just needed to execute
The hold that took away our first down and made it 3rd and ten, the same hold (but more egregious) happened twice to van on byu scoring drives and weren’t called. Need to be consistent in officiating
-
Rick WalkerParticipant
Agreed, personally on the hold on King I didn’t actually think Bernard had the first anyway but it would have depended on the spot (which we never got to see). But man Van and Logan were constantly violated by the byu OL on that last drive, I don’t even mind the holding on Vaughn if those flags come in because it shows consistency

Vintage KW 2nd half football, vanilla offense, sitting on a small lead leaning on defense to hang on. Everyone in the building knew what the game plan would be from KW in the 2nd half. Jay Hill made 2nd half adjustments shutting Utah’s offense down anticipating KW’s typical playing the analytic clock game instead of playing football. Sure the holding penalty sucks, Utah should of never been in that position with many squandered opportunities in the second half due to risk fear. Difference in the game, KW got flat out coached in the 2nd half by Sitake. Unfortunately, the local media will be afraid to ask the hard questions than rip on the Utah fans for over reacting.

Rose throwing that corner shot isn’t conservative. Bernard just needed to keep running.
The team is poorly coached in different ways. The kick off being so poor. It looked like they didn’t even want to play. The OL just wandering around on some plays. The WR going the wrong way.
It is the little things and every play matters. Whitt hasn’t conveyed that to the whole team. Even the defense which bends a lot takes plays off. It leads to huge scores sometimes with big plays.

By turtle mode I meant a turtle retreating into its shell, not the turtle and the hare. Just FYI. All we have to do is score one time in the 2nd half and the game is different. Just a weeeeency little field goal changes everything.

The failure to get a first down either time the defense gave you the ball at midfield in the 4th quarter. That was where the game was lost. So damn worried about running time off the clock that you won’t go with any kind of tempo and take advantage of the momentum shift(s).
Yes, 21 points could have been enough to win that game. Not sure why it was necessary to avoid getting 28 or more.,,

Tony and Rick my bad. What I meant was. We scored 21 points in the first half. In the tourtous and the hair. The hair gets out to lead plays around and the tortous wins. We get a lead and sit on it get conservative on offense and lose. It is too painful to watch. Our players deserve better. It does not matter who the play caller is. It is all on whitt. We get conservative and play not to loose. We have the players and talent. Just need a better head coach that has that killer instinct. I hope scalley has that.
